Filming in Los Angeles is at a historic low, with some suggesting the city might go the way of Detroit
Imho mainly American movies and TV Shows. Some countries with banger shows and movies:
- UK
- Korea
- The Netherlands
- Japan
- Serbia [ ;) ]
I think that Hollywood mainly lost two things:
- Their Guts
- Creativity
In those foreign countries i find movies that do stuff i never tought they would do, Some even truly shock me. And that is what i look for in a movie, Thought and emotion provocation.
It’s less a problem of lack of creativity, and more an issue with paying for it. Studios don’t take chances anymore. They will only pay to churn out bad versions of known IP because they are cheap cowards. Until the money and power gets back to the creatives, this will only get worse.

If you want to make something remarkable you have to take risks indeed.
Japanese anime is learning too many of worst lessons from American media:
- One short season with a limited number of episodes, followed by a 2-5 year hiatus
- More popular than ever, yet 95% of it is crap
- Constantly chasing trends, like driving isekai into the dirt for the past ten years
Don't get me wrong, there's still a lot of good stuff out there, and some of these bad habits already existed. But, it's more pronounced now.
I don't think we'll ever see another excellent mega-series like Naturo or One Piece or Bleach again. Not when they are going to take long breaks after 10-12 hours of episodes.
There's nothing wrong with isekai itself.
The problem is a lot of anime are just copies of other anime with a couple (minor) changes.
Honestly, for years I've been saying "Hollywood is dead". What I mean by that, is back in the day when people had nothing what to do for entertainment, they went to the movies. It was an event, and if you didn't see the movie while it was in theaters, you had to wait months for it to be released on video to be in the know about a film. It was a thing to keep up with all the glitz and glammor of the celebs. As content changed, today's younger crowd are not into movies or the life of the actors. Now, kids could care less and look more towards instagram content creators, not to mention have zero attention span. They see most movies in clips on tik tok.
I had a convo similar to this with a friend and told him the same thing, young ppl don't care about Hollywood (nor should they) and told him I bet my 20 year old niece doesnt even know who (I can't remember who it was but it was a big a list star with a great career. Tom Cruise or Brad Pitt or something along those lines) is. I asked her, she had no clue who i was taking about. I'm in my 30s.
Anyways, the industry needs to figure out how to lower its budgets to become profitable again I feel. I'm ok with it dying, too much content to consume these days it's hard for me to get excited to see acting, let a alone most of it seems phoned in.
The article (and the headline) is about entertainment jobs moving away from Los Angeles to other cities, not about the entertainment industry at large.
The best of TV is still really good.
Also you are generalizing a lot. For instance, I know a few young folks who are into older TV. I find this fascinating, as they really have more access to the world’s back catalog, and more means to sort through it, than other generations ever have.
…I’m less enthusiastic about movies specifically. The big ones people actually discuss are like Marvel junk food, and I find that TV has much more time to build and play with characters.
Individual actors as personalities have less star power, and are less prominent culturally because there's more competition now. There's indeed still a lot of high quality modern TV series around.

Hyperbole a bit? Detroit was entirely reliant in the manufacturing sector, where Los Angeles has a much larger and much more diverse economy.
Soon before his return to the White House, Trump described Hollywood as “a great but very troubled place” and declared that Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight would be his “eyes and ears”, helping to bring it back “bigger, better, and stronger than ever before!”

Yes, plenty of recent articles about its demise. It is all consolidated now into a few big studios who don't want to take risks, mainly because they see the writing on the wall for their future. Not to mention, a lot of other countries are producing Hollywood type shows and movies now, France for one example. Streaming, and eventually AI, which will put the last nail in their coffin, will totally transform what we know as "Hollywood" today into a relic, or a lesser producer, of the past.
maybe because hollywood is mostly catering to ASIA, china with SLOP shows and movies, john XINA and dwayne johnson are both popular as foreigners in action movies over there. asians love westerners movies.
