Ahead of its long-delayed American premiere, an unfinished 'workprint' copy of "A Minecraft Movie" is circulating on pirate sites. Warner Bros. is trying to contain this and other leaks, but that may prove difficult. The incident mirrors the infamous 2009 X-Men Origins: Wolverine workprint leak and the involvement of the FBI, which led to the arrest and conviction of an uploader. The source of that leak was never publicly disclosed.
And yet I was saying just today there's no way I'd go to the movies to see it anyway... Because Microsoft. Yet another example of how they'd never get money anyway but no doubt there'll be another article claiming they lost billions from the leak or some bs
I've thrown a copy up on my personal website (username + .com) if anyone wants to check it out. From a quick skim I can confirm it is somehow even worse than the normal one. (Mods please remove this if it's too close to linking to pirated content).
Seriously, I watched the leaked workprint. It's really, really bad. Bad script, bad acting, bad styling, just bad bad bad. First time I've legitimately seen Jack Black phone it in.
A lot of movies go through rewrites and updates before they get released, so saying it’s bad now may not be indicative of the final product. I mean look at Sonic. If that movie got released during its unfinished phase everyone would have hated it. That’s why they do test screenings and ask for feedback before release. Sometimes the movie will drastically change from its original.
The workprint leak came a day before the official release, the plot and cut of the film is exactly the same. It's just missing a significant amount of the effects.
