Recently installed prime minister expected to confirm 28 April ballot as he seeks to keep Liberal party in government
Summary
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will call an early general election for April 28 and run for office in Ottawa’s Nepean riding.
Carney, who succeeded Justin Trudeau in March, seeks a clear mandate amid rising tensions with the U.S. sparked by Donald Trump’s trade war threats and calls for Canada to become the 51st state.
The opposition Conservatives, led by Pierre Poilievre, had expected an easy victory until Trump’s attacks fueled a surge in nationalism, boosting Liberal support.
The election will decide 343 House of Commons seats.
Remember when Trump said that Trudeau was going to use the tariff crisis to cling to power and not have an election this year... Long after Trudeau had already announced that he was going to step down as soon as a replacement is chosen?
The conservatives had a gazillion point lead 2 years before an election being called!
Where's the smug redneck bigoted fuck trudeau' maplemaga crowd now?
It's kinda hilarious the 180 he's been forced to do, and despite already appearing disingenuous before, he's now such a joke that I'm surprised he shows his face. Doug Ford had a far better chance of success than he does.
Knowing nothing about the way Canadian elections are run, "Nepean riding" sounds like the third novel in a decalogy about teenagers isekai'd to a Narnia-like type of Universe.
So this means that the Edmonton center riding is open. Edmonton's mayor is also going to run for a seat, probably SE Edmonton, as that's where he's held city counsel posts before being the mayor.
Tired of the liberal government, weak backbones, abusing OIC by blaming the increase in gun related homicide on registered firearms owners and law abiding citizens, unnecessary carbon tax, shoving “pride” down our throats, increase in price for essential items.
But do we need a change to a government more in line with the "new direction" of American politics,
Absolutely not I agree with this sentiment.
My main problem with the liberal government is their take on crime & firearm ownership, it’s blatantly obvious 99.9% of gun related homicide in Canada occur from illegal & smuggled firearms from the US, it makes no sense to target licensed PAL/RPAL holders (who receive daily background checks!) with these bans.
Criminals already ignore the law, what’s this going to stop?
