Unfortunately very true. And personally I'll continue to filter when it's safer to do so regardless it passing or not. It could lead to more riders taking advantage of more opportunities to avoid dangers however, and take away chances of fines from police. Plus it becoming more common could lead to drivers being more aware of riders as well.
It's not about stopping them, it's about not getting in trouble with the law moving up to the front of the intersection, especially when it's triple digit temps.
Don't go too fast. Your brakes and attention are good enough to keep you safe. I lane split daily, be predictable, keep your hazards on and everything's fine.
