I agree. It'd be kind of nice to have it off to the side.
- Showerhead seems like an issue. I guess if you can articulate it to point to the wall and the wall is well sealed it's probably ok.
- Other side, sure. On the entrance side you might stub your toe.

I ... find it functionally superior (less water splashback) and also kinda aesthetically more pleasing than if it were centred (within the chosen parameters of colours/materials/designs ... which bother me more, looks cheap).

I also find it dirty (prob right after the work was done).

... actually the offset might be for accessibility reasons - so people with mobility issues (eg in wheelchairs) can get to the faucet easier. Which is always a good design option imho.

It's not mildly infuriating at all, it's mildly pleasing.

Also, easier to share a bath without one person having their head squashed to side of tap. If you put on hot water, you're not getting the pain as it runs on to your feet. This is an innovation.
Many baths here in the UK have it in the corner against the wall.

That looks like the narrowest tub I've ever seen. I assume they renovated the place and made the bathroom smaller to add an extra bedroom or something, and they just shrank the wall without changing the plumbing.
- Just a hunch, but probably a stud right in the middle and they either didn't want to deal with it, or didn't know how to move it. Makes sense if it's someone watching a video and doing it themselves to save money.

The fixtures aren't centered (laterally) on the wall.
