Researchers discover localized pain relief using known chemical reaction
A team of international researchers including those from the University of Adelaide have taken a well-known chemical reaction as the basis of a new generation of targeted pain relief medication.
This could be amazing. Fingers crossed that it pans out and reaches patients who need it.
Gabapentin is cool and everything, but if this new stuff doesn’t have any bad side effects I’d love to try it. Gabapentin gives me slow brain at effective doses, and it seems like something that only activates at the pain site could potentially avoid systemic effects like that.
If gabapentin is effective but side effects are an issue, you might see benefit from pregabalin (Lyrica). I had similar issues with gabapentin brain fog at the doses I needed for a cervical spine injury.
The description my pharmacist gave when I talked to her was basically all the good stuff turned way up, side effects turned way down.
I'm on high dose of pregabalin now and it's been life altering.
I'm watching this potentially also, but in the meantime I'm at least functional.
