He went on to make white collar, one of my fav tv series, so I can't say I'm too upset at how things worked out.

I was guessing the movie was Superman Returns, just because of how ironic it would have been.

That's what I was thinking... 2001 to 2003? Being gay didn't seem to hurt Bryan Singer... X-Men was 2000. X2 was 2003.
Singer left the franchise to do Superman Returns in 2006.
