so many apocalyses to choose from and yet
  • Yeah but its not a cool apocalypse with like, zombies.. or caused by brown people that we can wage a big war against.

Its caused by the vroomvroom juice we really really love, and thus must be ignored at all costs.

  • r/israel in meltdown over Superman movie
  • Israel has spent like 4+ decades trying desperately to associate criticism of israel with antisemitism. And the world has complied, Hell its now a crime punishable by decades in prison just to support Palestine in the UK. Gotta wonder how Churchill hasnt lept out of his grave and started cockslapping motherfuckers.

Netanyahu also used to have a penchant for comparing people who refused to gargle his fucking balls to Hitler, in a blatant attempt to shame people into Israeli compliance. Hasnt done it so much anymore, Probably because descriptions of Hitler and his actions would rub too uncomfortably close to what Netanyahu and Israel are doing now a days.

  • Why is the number of first-time US homebuyers at a generational low?
  • because the previous generation were all robber barons that drained the world for their personal gain at the expense of the children they insisted on having.

  • People angry that Superman represents kindness are outright admitting that they don't want to be good people
  • Cause Americans are obsessed with Rugged Individualism.

If you are in trouble, you don't accept help, much less ask for it. You pull yourself up by your bootstraps and turn your fortunes around with grit and determination using nothing more than the loose change in your pocket.

Thats how anyone that needs help became nothing more than social parasites leeching off the rugged individualistic success of their betters.

Thats why Americans, on the whole, have all but erased empathy and good will towards others.

Its why 1/3rd of the country actively votes for weak, pathetic fascists who poorly playact as strongmen. Its why 1/3rd of the country didnt bother voting, because they have no problem with fasciatic strongmen punishing the weak and the other.

The New Religion of the American Orthodoxy is basically "Fuck you, Got Mine".

  • Linux gaming for a non-technical person?
  • I distrohopped for a long time, usually because I got fed up with something not being available for that distro and having to compile from source, and usually failing that despite following the instructions to the letter...

Until I ended up on Nobara.

I've used it for a couple years now, been relatively painless for gaming. Everythings compiled/installed/ready for show time from the start. Honestly the gaming experience on linux in general, thanks to proton advancements, has been so smooth that the rare time I have an issue its usually because of a game bug and nothing to do with linux.. I do make a point of avoiding games that have excessive anti-cheat though.

I've had two issues in as many years of using it that required hitting the Nobara discord, which had the solutions already pinned, and the solutions were little more than a command to copy into the terminal. Folks in the discord are wonderful, helpful people to the not-technical, too.

I don't have any real minor/annoyances with Nobara the OS, or really even Linux as a whole. my only real ongoing complaint (and this isnt a linux specific issue at all) is a combination of discord being used as a support medium/knowledge base for everything anymore, and the enshittification of search engine results from SEO.. So now you cant ever find the solution for any problem, no matter what its about, because half the answers are locked away on discord where search engines cant index, and the other half a buried and unfindable due to a billion AI generated Search Engine Optimized websites/pages that bury any relevant, valuable information so deeply as to be impossible to find without a pith helmet, torches, and long expedition.

  • [GPU] Upscaling/Frame Generation/Etc are nothing but desperate attempts to fulfilled the failed promise of 4k gaming, and have done real damage to gaming experiences at all resolutions.

Upscaling and Frame Generation are disasters meant to conceal unfulfilled promises from GPU makers for 4k gaming, and as a coverup for the otherwise horrible performance some modern games have, even at 1080/1440p resolutions.

Upscaling will never, no matter how much AI and overhead you throw at it, create an image that is as good as the same scene rendered at native res.

Frame Generation is a joke, and I am absolutely gobsmacked that people even take it seriously. It is nothing but extra AI frames shoved into your gameplay, worsening latency, response times, and image quality, all so you can artificially inflate a number. 30FPS gaming is, and will always be, infinitely better as an experience, than AI frame doubling a 30fps experience to 60FPS.

and because both these technologies exist, game devs are pushing out less optimized to completely unoptomized games that run like absolute dogshit, requiring you to use upscaling and shit even at 1080p just to get reasonable frame rates on GPUs that should run it just fine if it was optimized better (and we know its optimization, because some of these games do end up getting that optimization pass long after launch, and wouldnt you know.. 9fps suddenly became 60fps)

Why are all my Cims taking the longest route possible, instead of taking the highway?

My town currently has 4 highway on/off ramps. one on the far right (where the yellow and green lines start), one in the middle right above my industrial area, one in the middle left, between my farms/logging industry, and a 4th one off screen to the further left that goes to a seaport.

I would assume that traffic would follow the yellow line, using the offramps near their destinations.

instead, ALL the traffic coming into my city, is coming in on the far right and weaving through my surface streets (a 4 lane road, not highway, ring road, and 2 lane connector roads), causing massive traffic headaches and even bigger backups as they try to follow the green line to get to the far left through my city.

Why are my Cims dumb and bombing through the middle of my city, instead of taking the highway?

and another topic.. this torrential crush of vehicles coming in off that one far right offramp regularly causes huge backups for 4+ chunks on the right highway. I have lane mathmatics. I have a very long runup where they have plenty of time to get over. I still get idiot Cims taking the furthest lane just to get ahead of the crush before stopping and trying to merge in right before the offramp.

    I miss TM:PE traffic lines.

Help with g502 hero on linux?

I have no idea where to post this, I assumed..since its a gaming mouse, the gaming linux community would be appropriate, Apologies if I am mistaken.

I have a g502 hero, and it is giving me no end of grief.. namely with regards to the DPI settings.

First and foremost, it just randomly resets itself to an absurdly high DPI

I use Piper, since everything I've found online says Piper works great for g502 mice on linux, and while I can use it to set the colors of the LEDs.. the DPI settings just don't stick.

I've tried setting all the DPI options to the same DPI I prefer, Doesnt work. I've tried disabling all the DPI settings except one, and doesnt work. I've even tried running piper via sudo and the DPI settings still don't change on the mouse (they change in Piper, though)

It seems like nothing I can set, as far as DPI goes, works. I know it is communicating with the mouse cause, like I said, I can change the LED colors and button configs.. but the DPI settings just wont stick, and worse, randomly change.

and I know, I say random, and some people might thing I'm accidentally hitting the resolution up button since its right there next to m1, but I'm not. I can have the DPI set, via the DPI up/down buttons on the mouse, then get up and walk away.. and when i come back, its back at absurd meth speed again.

Its genuinely not only driving me nuts, but really screwing with my ability to play games.

If anyone has any suggestion or solution, can you please share them with me?

If you got this far, then thankyou for reading this half rant half, half tech plea.

Why the hell does this happen on straight roads, and how do i prevent it?

These are straight, parallel roads (made with a single drag, so no like, plop a section, then plop another section) on a flat surface. and I keep getting weird gaps and misalignment and other stuff that is observably minor but is making me want to rip my goddamn fucking hair out with how its screwing up symmetry and other stuff.

The only thing I can find about this is to disable various snappings and to make sure the land is flat. I have redrawn this area like 2 dozen times trying various combinations of snapping and not snapping settings and it still does this same damn shit, and the land is flat.

Do you still have to use BePinEx to mod CS2 if you dont use paradox mods?

I finally picked up CS2, and was wanting to install a couple mods to get going.

Immediately put off by paradox demanding an account to install mods from paradox mods, so I am trying to get mods from elsewhere.. and the only thing i can find is stuff from a year+ ago saying BePinEx is needed to install mods.

Just wanted to make sure if this is still what you have to do today, before I go down a rabbit hole.

[Guide] How to install Fallout London on Steam On Linux [Updated for Todays Patch]

I spent 3 days trying to get FOLON to work following both the official website guide and every post I could find on the internet, and I finally said fuck it and played around with it myself and figured out how to get it running.

I'm posting here in case anyone else has had the same problems I did and don't have a solution. The first half is pretty much identical to their instructions

This does not use the FOLON Downgrader, Because I dont like the idea of signing into my steam account through someone elses program.

Also don't be in a steam beta. Use release steam

    • Run steam in console mode as per instructions here. On Linux just close steam and run "steam -console" in terminal
    • Download all the depot packs like they instruct.
    • Create a folder elsewhere and go to where the files downloaded and empty each folder into the created folder so you have a full build of the last version of Fallout 4 (Do not alter this directory further, unless you want to have to go through all that pita downloading again, so only copy files from here, do not move them from here)
    • Go find appmanifest_377160.acf in /steam/steamapps and make it read only
    • Go to your /steam/steamapps/common/Fallout4 folder and delete everything it, and copy the Fallout 4 you just downloaded into the folder.
    • Launch fallout once, i dont know how far you have to go, i typically go to character creation, to make sure the game creates all the necessary files
    • Go to GOG and download the Fallout London files. should be 10 files, one being an .exe and the rest being bin files
    • This is where we diverge. Run protontricks, If you don't have it installed, then read install instructions here and select Fallout 4
    • Ignore any missing file arch 65 errors, keep clicking okay until the "What do you want to do" window pops up
    • Click install application, Ok
    • In this next window, click cancel
    • In this window, select Run an Arbitrary Executable (.exe/.msi/.msu) and click okay.
    • In the file explorer that pops up, navigate to your FOLON installer (at the time of this posts edit it is setup_fallout_london_2.31_revision2_(64bit)_(75054) setup_fallout_london_v1.01_iv2.31r3_(64bit)_(75422).exe) and run it
    • Select your desktop as the destination (Don't select your Fallout 4 folder, It'll just install FOLON into a Fallen London subfolder)
    • one the install is done and over, select every file in that folder and copy (don't move, copy, You want to save this folder as well in case something screws up so you don't have to through the install steps again) the Data and src folders (this is just f4se source code folder, but it'd go in /Fallout if you installed f4se manually anyway) and all loose files beneath it to your fallout 4 folder, and tell your file manager to merge folders and overwrite files.
    • Move the files in _Appdata to ~Steam/steamapps/compatdata/377160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Fallout4/, overwriting what is there
    • Move/Fallout4/ files in _Config to ~/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/377160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games, overwriting whats there.

You should be able to launch Fallout 4 now, and have it load directly into Fallout london, and thanks to making appmanifest read only, steam will never update the game and bork your mod.

Now there are still lots of bugs in FOLON, like the train crash outside the starter area, which most people fix by installing the Buffout mod, but thats beyond the scope of this post

If any of you out there had woes getting FOLON to work like I did I really hope this helps

Edit- About 30 minutes ago, as of this edit, a patch was released to address many problems with FOLON. None of the techniques I've listed here for installing the main mod works with the patch. I am continuing to experiment and if I can figure it out I will edit this post again or make a replied post.

    Edit 2-

Okay, I could not find a way to get the patcher to work to patch the game

But the base install files are also updated to the same version as the patch, so just redownload the executable and the bin files from gog and follow the steps in the original guide

"I was both implementing the main quest and leading the quest design team, so I had absolutely no time. The entire quest design team was already overbooked.""

The quest design team being overbooked and not having time certainly explains a lot.

Anyone got a good list/collections of "essential"/Recommended mods for Cities Skylines 1?

Essential as in pretty much everyone agrees are good and worth having, I know no mod is essential in the literal sense, and opinions will change whats essential to each individual.

Looking for a bit of a list/collection cause otherwise I'll go down the rabbit hole and end up modding my game to much to be playable.. Which I wish was a joke, but that happened last time I got my itch on for city building, lol.

Would Nuclear Weapons be as destructive in ship to ship space combat, as they are on the ground in an atmosphere?

As far as I know, the big damage from Nuclear Weapons planetside is the massive blastwave that can pretty much scour the earth, with radiation and thermal damage bringing up the rear.

But in space there is no atmosphere to create a huge concussive and scouring blast wave, which means a nuclear weapon would have to rely on its all-directional thermal and radiation to do damage.. but is that enough to actually be usful as a weapon in space, considering ships in space would be designed to handle radiation and extreme thermals due to the lack of any insulative atmosphere?

I know a lot of this might be supposition based on imaginary future tech and assumptions made about materials science and starship creation, but surely at least some rough guess could be made with regards to a thernonuclear detonation without the focusing effects of an atmosphere?

Steam Link broken on linux? Anyone have experience?

I set up Steam Link on my raspberry pi to try and do some couch gaming over the holiday.. but its no bueno. I am on a 5600x/6700xt with wayland on linux, and steam is up to date.

I get a black screen with a mouse cursor.

I try launching steam with the -pipewire command as i've read elsewhere, and I can see big picture mode, but its horribly slow.. But the weird thing is, its only steam/games thats slow. The mouse runs in real time without lag, and any sounds run in real time without lag or hiccup. But the video is like 1 frame per minute, so I can push left on the d-pad and have to sit and wait forever for the selection on the TV to move (even though its moved over immediately on the desktop).

Games are the same issue. Game runs fine on the desktop, audio runs fine on the streamed TV, but the video is just like..slide show.

I've tried running it at the lowest possible image quality settings. at low bandwidth, at high bandwidth, at the max the network test suggested, tried turning all the settings like hardware video encoding and stuff off and on. Nothing makes a difference.

Is steam link just completely screwed or am I being an idiot and doing something wrong?

    10
Anyone else reconsidering buying the game with the performance issues now being revealed? Or the lack of Workshop support?

A lot of people who have had hands on experience with the game thus far (certain modders, City Planner Plays, Biffa, etc) have made note of its terrible performance, even top of the line rigs with 1500 dollar video cards.

Like, 15-20fps levels of performance on top tier cards.

Granted, that's on high settings.. but its a freaking city building game, not a AAA hyper realism ray traced first person VR experience. It shouldn't require a nuclear power plant to play a city builder!

And you shouldn't have to run the game on low settings just to get a playable framerate with a decent rig, modern rig.

That, and the lack of workshop support? I mean, I get them wanting to host it themselves, but that just means it'll be alive only for as long as they want to host it, vs steam which the workshop will be there until valve goes out of business.. and I'd wager CO goes under long before steam does.

    I was excited for CS2.

But these two bits have really pushed the game off the shelf for me into that "Well, Maybe I'll buy it in a year or 2 when its on sale for 5-10 bucks" territory.

Is the 6800 non XT worth the price increase over the 6700/6750xt?

I'm currently running a rx580 (with a 5600x and 16gb of ram), and its finally starting to show its age and not be able to run at the settings i would prefer, at the frames I would like.

This is a card I'll probably, barring its sudden demise, be sticking with for the next 5-6 years, So keep that in mind too. I know vram demand in games is on the rise too, even for 1080p, which is why I have not considered any 8gb cards like the 6600 or the 7600.

I've narrowed my choices down to the 6700xt, 6750xt and rx6800 (non-xt). Which will be used almost entirely for 1080p gaming (maybe 1440p if my current monitor dies and I'm forced to replace it)

6700xt is attractive simply because its the cheapest. 6800 is attractive cause its more powerful, which I would hope means I'd get a bit more extra time out of it.

6750xt is kinda stuck in the middle.. -100ish bucks cheaper than the 6800, but also 70-90ish bucks more expensive than the 6700xt, and from all the reviews I've seen, it seems like it only averages around a 5-8fps boost over the 6700xt which doesn't exactly seem worth the investment?

This is where I need the advice of those who are more experienced/knowledgeable than I am.

Would the 6800 have enough horsepower to be viable long enough after the 6700xt/6750xt hit their limits to be worth the price jump, or Should I save 100 bucks and get the 6750? Or should I just go straight with the 6700xt and save almost 200 bucks?

My gut is telling me 6700xt, but I'd like some outside, hands on experienced opinions, if you'd be so kind to give them, before I can quash the debate in my head.
