Lemmy Support
- Illegal Image detection
How can one configure their Lemmy instance to reject illegal content? And I mean the bad stuff, not just the NSFW stuff. There are some online services that will check images for you, but I'm unsure how they can integrate into Lemmy.
As Lemmy gets more popular, I'm worried nefarious users will post illegal content that I am liable for.
- Vanished posts (possibly removed communities)
Hello, I came here searching for a post I made in a community, I think the community was "Rollerblading, and my post was a review. However, when I go to my profile there is nothing under "posts". I also checked for other posts that were in the monster hunter world community, but I can't find anything, and it seems like the communities no longer exist. I don't care about other posts, I would just want the inline skates review. Is there a way to retrieve this post? When I go to my profile, it still says "6 posts", but now under "posts" there is only this one.
- Adding a wallpaper (I think?) to an already created community?
I just created a community but left it without a wallpaper (or whatever it's called here). A little later I found out what the wallpaper should be and now I wanna add one but I can't see any buttons about editing the community. So: how can I add a wallpaper image to an already existing community?
- Lemmy.ml Alternative UI similar to old.reddit.com
I know that Lemmy.world has the old.lemmy.world but is there anyway to get that same UI for Lemmy.ml?
- Import Settings Working?
I am relocating from lemmy.one since it is shutting down. Does the "Import Settings" function work? I tried using it, but the page reported an error at the bottom left of the screen. I tried again yesterday and then again today, and the message at the bottom left of the screen just says something like "please wait awhile before importing or exporting settings."
- How to transfer community ownership
Hi folks,
as my current instance will shut down soon, I need to transfer the ownership of my tiny community to my new account on a different server. I know I can make my new account a moderator. But will the new acc then have 100% of the administration options that my current account has? Or will it only be a second-class role? I'm used to 2000er forum/boards where admin accounts carried way more privileges than mods. Like a mod could also never delete the whole thing.
- Still getting Subscribe Pending trying to federate new instance
I've got my own instance running and I want to federate with some instances and communities but I'm getting a Subscribe Pending error. I read everything I could find on this error but the fix on github from like a year or two ago didn't work.
For context, I got the instance running on server A, then tried to federate with a few communities. Then I moved the instance to server B, which was more stable, and then tried to federate again.
The domain is the same just literally rsynced the files to another server and got the container up.
I'm ready to commit to Lemmy full time and leave reddit. Any ideas? What am I doing wrong?
I'm running 0.19.11 for context, with caddy as my reverse proxy.
Edit: Even further context. This issue is happening on communites on instances that I had not trie to federate previously.

- forum.yunohost.org How do I prune my Lemmy instance?
Your suggestion to run sudo yunohost tools basic-space-cleanup shaved off almost 20GiB, so that’s a help. And thanks for recommending ncdu. It tells me that the big hog is /home/yunohost.app/lemmy/magick, which contains 44,259 files taking 405GiB in total. These files don’t have extensions or discer...
Specifically, how do I safely and properly clean up the '/lemmy/magick/' folder? Mine contains 44,259 files taking 405GiB in total. That is the vast majority of my humble server's 466GiB capacity. I am the only user on my instance so I don't know their source.
- Deleting images doesn't actually delete the image
- Upload an image as part of a post or comment
- Navigate to your profile page -> Uploads
- Open image in new tab (and save the URL)
- Press "delete" on the image
- Attempt to navigate to the saved URL
This should result in a 404 error. Currently, it shows the screenshot. Below is a screenshot I deleted from my profile:

Here is confirmation from my user profile taken after the above screenshot was deleted:
- Hey all! How do I contact the lazy social admin?
I want to delete my lazy social account to start one in a different name. However I mod a community so can't lose access to the ban function. I put in a request for a second account on the instance and not had a reply. Any ideas?
- Account Deletion Request
I am writing to request the deletion of my account as the delete button isn't working.
I will be happy to provide any information regarding the account.
Thank you for your assistance.
- Cant block comms I got banned from?
My main account got banned from a couple of communities for wrongthink so now I have to suffer their posts without even being able to try to offer a different perspective. But the block community button is not above the sidebar where it normally is. Can I still block those communities somehow?
- How does “Block User” work?
Where is this information stored? If someone is overzealous in banning users, does this create a giant, permanent file somewhere? (I hope this is the right place to ask; it was removed from Asklemmy)
- [QUESTION] Would you consider adding PoW CAPTCHAs?
It seems like some FOSS websites started using a Proof of Work CAPTCHA called Anubis because they've been getting hit by crawlers to gather data for LLMs. It seems like it helps.
It does not stop them, but it does make it more expensive and slower for the attacker. At the moment, I haven't seen any instance having this problem, but it most likely will be a problem someday and being praped for it is definitely not a bad thing.
Lemmy could benefit from this by maybe placing some invisible or auto PoW CAPTCHAs when doing some action like commenting, posting, etc.
- Images not expandable on Lemmy 0.19.11
Steps to reproduce:
- Post a test image to my community, !altmedia@altmedia.house
- Go to homepage, image is not expandable in-page and thumbnail doesn't show up.
Thumbnail works for articles, just not images. So doesn't appear to be an issue for post-rs. Clicking the image leads you to a new page which is just the image, instead of expanding in the page, as I would expect.
Example: https://altmedia.house/post/308
Not sure if this is an issue with lemmy-ui or lemmy itself. Probably the ui right? I look in the server journal and there aren't any errors.
Edit: I thought I would add that I did a 'from scratch' installation of Lemmy, not using Docker. I feel like given the posting behavior below, that I must be missing an environment variable definition that gets set by Docker that lemmy-ui uses in a thumbnail url or something.

Exactly what it says in the title. How do I find all modlog actions related to an user, e.g. me?

How do I join, I am so frustrated now because you are wasting my time. First it says I need a invite, then I think ok maybe if I create an account on lemmy.world. Then I do that and try but am being asked for a instance. All I know is I am trying to join https://lemmy.world/c/autism but now very much suspecting that this community will be unmoderated and hostile as well given how many tricks you have been using. Communities are either unmoderated or moderated but apply unwritten rules.
- Is it possible to embed content in the sidebar of a community?
Let's say that someone moderates several different communities for related subjects. If they make a list of these communities and their respective links and descriptions, is it possible to post that list in one place (on Lemmy or elsewhere) and then embed it in the sidebar of each community? That way any edits to the list would only have to be made in one place and not edited in each community's sidebar separately. The goal is to have the current list appear in full in the sidebar, so linking to it would not achieve this, but embedding it would.
Thanks!
- Where to freely post comments without being blocked?
Hi
It seems that free speech is only an illusion on Lemmy servers.
Where can I post any comment on any post (even blocked Reddit posts) without being blocked?
Even hatred needs to be analyzed to get to the root cause.
Thanks in advance for pointing me to open minded and constructive discussions servers.
- Is there a way to hide your own Lemmy content from yourself?
Hi there, I know that you're not able to fully delete a post/comment on Lemmy because of the way the system works since deleting something only seems to hide the content from most instances but it will still show up for yourself and give you the option to "undelete" it.
But it's pretty annoying to me to have all posts and comments I deleted still showing up for me in my profile section. Even though I know you can't fully delete it I was wondering if there's at least a way to also hide the content from myself and not just for others.
- How do we find out the cause of deleted posts not shown in the modlog?
I'm just going through my past history, and looking for anything where the subject is "\Permanently Deleted\" and where the Modlog for that community shows nothing.

- (Deleted 13 days ago) https://lemmy.ml/post/27745076/17556469, modlog
None of these appear in the modlog of their respective communities.
I've been told before in an earlier comment chain that this might be due to the post user being permanently deleted.
Is there any way I can verify this as an end-user? Once the post is gone, I can't see the username of who posted it.
It's just a bit of a small hole in the transparency of Lemmy's fantastic moderation

- can't confirm email
i updated my email address in my efforts to de-google myself and i got the email asking to confirm my new email address; but when i do it it just hangs.
how can i find out if my new email address took?
- How to avoid seeing the same posts over and over again?
Newb here. In my main feed, I see some posts over and over again. I see a post, click "Next" and there it is again. And again on the next page, and a couple of others I've already seen too. And again on the next page. (Sometimes they are cross-posts to a different /c, but mostly not.)
It's annoying having to wade through post after post I've already seen.
What I've tried so far:
- Set main feed to "New" rather than "Active" etc.
- "Hide this post" when I see it for the third or fourth time
Are there other ways?
- Federation not working properly for certain instances.
My instance (frozeninferno.xyz) seems not to be federating properly with mander.xyz.
Looking at https://lemmy.frozeninferno.xyz/c/herpetology@mander.xyz it appears that the newest posts are from 4 months ago, however, looking at https://mander.xyz/c/herpetology there have been some more recent than that.
What can I do to fix this? And how can I check if federation is working properly with other instances?
Thanks.
- Import/Export settings error
Anyone else get the “please wait a few minutes before trying to import or export settings again” error?
It worked importing the same file to another account, but not this particular one. It gave me the error yesterday, so I gave up and went to sleep. Today it’s saying the same thing. I was thinking maybe the file size is too big? But it’s only 21 kb. =\ If nothing else, I’ll keep trying again at a later time. It’s not urgent.
UPDATE: Solved! I guess just try until you succeed. Might take a few days
- Unable to Receive Mod Reports from LW Community
Is there some kind of rate limiting trick to mod report federation and LW? I have HackingNe.ws, but it seems like only reports generated from LW do not federate, not sure how to make the two instances like each other - comments/posts seem to federate properly.
Reports from other instances work fine btw, just LW reports. For example I created L3stest@sh.itjust.works - I am able to report fine between instances (account on SJW can report from there to HN or HN to SJW just fine). But I also mod LW/c/Technology, and reports to LW/c/Technology from HN works fine but on my instance it does not show reports to that community from other instances. I do not see receiving the reports in my logs that I can tell, nor do I see them visually on my instance.
Someone I talked to who had a similar issue mentioned LW rate limiting causing the same issue for them, is that what's going on?
Open to creating a bug report with Lemmy, but since it seems instance specific I figured I'd ask here first.
Feel free to DM me if needed, thanks
