How to avoid seeing the same posts over and over again?
Newb here. In my main feed, I see some posts over and over again. I see a post, click "Next" and there it is again. And again on the next page, and a couple of others I've already seen too. And again on the next page. (Sometimes they are cross-posts to a different /c, but mostly not.)
It's annoying having to wade through post after post I've already seen.
What I've tried so far:
Set main feed to "New" rather than "Active" etc.
"Hide this post" when I see it for the third or fourth time
In your settings on the website there's a checkbox for "Show read posts", uncheck that. Some apps have the same feature or similar. Some apps also have an option to mark as read when you scroll past a post without opening it.
I think Lemmy has an issue with the same community existing on multiple servers and the "big stories" tend to get posted to all of them. So you'll mark a post as read on (for example) linux@lemmy.world only to see it again a minute later on linux@lemmy.ml. If this is what you're experiencing, I don't think there's a solution yet, but I think some options are being worked on.
I might have the wrong terminology: when I say "my main feed", I don't mean an RSS feed in a feed reader, I just mean what I see when I go to my instance's homepage ( https://lemmy.ca/ ) in my web browser.
I'm on lemmy.ca too. I almost exclusively do Lemmy with the Jerboa app on my phone which has a setting to automatically mark as read on scroll. I thought the web interface did this too, but I can't see it. Now I'm confused 🤔
are you following too few subs? since the user base is smaller than that big corps lemmy simply has less daily content and this is especially noticed if you're only following a few subs
70 is plenty. you should see new stuff a lot. i don't see too much but i blame it on the fact that i don't follow too many. i guess there's something else here
