- ProtonVPN on Android does not let me access localhost sites from other devices
My phone is unable to access any other device in the network when connected to ProtonVPN via the free tier. My other computers are able to communicate with each other even when they have their own instances of ProtonVPN enabled with free tier. I've checked their settings in the Android app and apparently local connections are paywalled.
Oddly enough, sharing files from the phone to other devices via LocalSend works, though you would need to share them via an HTTP url.
I find this to be very stupid and frustrating, especially when local connections are allowed for free for computers. I want to continue with this service but it's making it difficult to do so as I wish to be able to access my selfhosted services locally. Is there any way to mitigate this while still keeping the connection active?

why is unzipping on android so slow compared to Windows? I've tried ZipXtract, MaterialFile... All took 10+minutes to unizip a zip file that only took 30 seconds to unzip on Windows.
Why is this the case and i s there any way to speed it up?
Thanks a lot

I am using google pixel 9a so this issue looks like it might not be the issue of storage speed

- Google Camera for zoomed photos
These have both been taken with the exact same camera from the same location. The one on the left is with the OnePlus camera app, and the one on the right is from a community modification of the Google camera app to work on the OnePlus 12. The Google one looks a lot better because they use super-resolution from multiple short exposures automatically.
The Google camera app does not usually look better without zoom (in my short time testing) and also has a harder time focusing.

I have read this on https://discuss.grapheneos.org/d/7710-changing-imei/8, but I'm bit confused. Does this mean our IMEI is identified by cell tower as long as the airplane mode is off? What exact setting is "Radio" referring to?

Short answer: Yes The network can see your IMEI and triangulate your location even though no SIM is installed. and theoretically with airplane mode off no radio is on
- gadgetoid.com TicWatch Pro 5 Enduro Reviewed
I loved the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra. However it was overshadowed by my disappointment at its promised, but overdue, WearOS 3.x update. For the TicWatch Pro 5, Mobvoi have simply jumped the gun- with a…
This is a relatively old review when the TicWatch was new. This watch easily outperforms the Galaxy Ultra and even Oneplus 2R and musters in 4/5 days of battery life (looks sadly at my GW 6).
Some did report its app being not as good as S Health or Google's implementation. However it's main Achilles heel is the update problem. Pixel Watches, IIRC, get 3 years and Galaxy Watches get 4 years ; but TicWatches are lucky to get one major Wear OS upgrade and that too, delayed. Which is a Shame because the hardware here easily equals last gen Galaxy/Pixel Watches and in terms of battery life, will stand for many years to come.
In my country, Wear OS forms a tiny share of the market and Samsung has the biggest pie of it (it doesn't help that watches aren't considered for trade in here, so if and when I do upgrade to a new watch, my current watch becomes e waste and I pay full price). I did consider the TicWatch but seeing it's relatively poor software support went with Samsung. However, damn if I said that I love Samsung's battery life or charging implementation. The WPC mechanism wastes so much heat and throttles itself to heck in hot temperatures.
- Can't enable mobile security settings
Hi there,
I have an Asus Zenfone 10 on Android 15. In this release of android a new feature named mobile security settings became available which are supposed to signal and protect against surveillance on the mobile network side, like at a protest.
When I try to enable these settings on my device they are off again when I reenter these settings. Do these settings have some kind of prerequisite? Are they working on your device?
Thanks!

Hi everyone,
I have an old galaxy note 8 that I would like to flash and get a Linux based OS on it. I recently put lineage OS on my galaxy tab s6 and it's working great, but it looks like lineage doesn't support the note 8. I heard about cyanogenMod but it seems like thats discontinued. I just have some games I want to play from the Google play store, so my needs are basic, so just having a simple OS for games that the devs are keeping up to date would be great. Thanks!

- android auto: is there a way to play the CURRENT audio and not the last thing android auto played
i use my device to play my audio which is almost always an audiobook or podcast with the occasional baseball game through the mlb app as well. most of the time i'm listening while i'm getting in the car and also most of the time it's not the last thing i was listening to when i got out of the car. what i want to do is pretty simple- keep playing the thing i was already listening to which is especially important to me because the official mlb app is NOT supported by android auto, so i can't control the audio on my headunit.
note- game audio will still play the through bluetooth but not being able to control the audio on your headunit defeats the purpose of having android auto in my opinion.
- Lowering the minimum volume on Android
For a while I've disliked how high the minimum volume on Android is sometimes. Been searching on ways to fix it and most of the solutions I found required proprietary apps. But then I found this blog post from 2019 which was a pretty good solution to the volume thing. This involves modifying the files that define the volume curve (root is needed).
The relevant part is this: > On a recent-ish version of Android, the two files you want to mess with are: > > -
/vendor/etc/audio_policy_volumes.xml
, which defines what type of audio stream (media, phone calls, earbuds, bluetooth, etc.) uses what type of audio curve. > > -/vendor/etc/default_volume_tables.xml
, which defines the default audio curves referenced in the previous file. > > If you've never modified files on Android, I highly recommend plugging your device to a computer, enabling USB debugging and connecting through adb. You will likely need to remount the filesystem, as it's in read-only mode by default: > >> $ adb shell > $ su > $ mount -o remount,rw /system >
> > I don't really care about anything else than media volume, so here is the curve I ended up with. It goes very low and gives you more control at low volume, while still being quite loud at maximum volume. You will need to experiment with your device though, as DACs are all different. > >> <reference name="DEFAULT_MEDIA_VOLUME_CURVE"> > <!-- Default Media reference Volume Curve --> > <point>1,-9000</point> > <point>10,-8000</point> > <point>20,-7000</point> > <point>30,-6000</point> > <point>40,-4000</point> > <point>60,-3000</point> > <point>100,-2000</point> > </reference> >
> > For reference, the scale goes from -9600 to 0, 0 being the loudest sound your device can produce. > > As all things Android, if you are not building your own images, this will get erased next time you update your device. Don't forget to backup the files you modify, as audio curves are easy to screw up!---
In my case I only needed to modify
/vendor/etc/default_volume_tables.xml
.On my device the curve from the post was a bit too low (first three volume steps were almost unhearable) so after messing around with it I found a more sane one for mine. Gonna leave that here too in case it's useful:
<reference name="DEFAULT_MEDIA_VOLUME_CURVE"> <!-- Default Media reference Volume Curve --> <point>1,-8000</point> <point>5,-7500</point> <point>10,-7000</point> <point>20,-6000</point> <point>40,-4000</point> <point>60,-3000</point> <point>100,-2000</point> </reference>
(Again, this can be different for each device)
Have a great day :D
