  • Is Jellyfin running on the VPS too or only NetBird? Sorry for the stupid question. 🙏

I just saw that they discourage forwarding ports directly over the internet, which, I guess, is fair, since we're not using ssh or other encrypted protocols here - although if we are able to use https, then I don't quite follow...

So! I'm considering giving your setup a try! Is their free plan sufficient? Is the layout then something like:

My mom's client ===> VPS (NetBird, I guess any port forwarding and/or routing happens here?) ===> My Jellyfin server + storage

    ? 😊

  • けいこさん😭❤

Your efforts have not gone unnoticed. 🩷

I've not been around fedi long enough to have experienced much of what you describe, but it's tiresome how gatekeepy and opaque some forums are... 😓

  • At the very least, there was this one person, using terms such as "pro - LGBT", as if being transphobic was a legitimate alternative:

Other than that, these people were really talking around and around, never actually saying much, which is quite typical jargon for bigoted individuals, because naming matters by their names would make them admit their bigotry.

@keiko@fedia.io Let me know if you'd like me to screenshot the whole thread (four pages)!

  • Good point(s)! Because no matter how much we practice these safety first protocols, when somebody is in danger, we act instinctively. My only thoughts were "eliminate threat 👿". 🤣

No, the suspect stayed where I asked them to stay. Those that we meet in our offices are not detained and attend these pre-trial interviews on their own volition. We do of course interview detained people too, visiting them in jail. Or at least I do, my coworkers are lazy and just do it over the phone. 😅

Anyway, sometimes it doesn't matter how hard I try to explain to people over the phone or in a written letter how much this interview could work in their favor, they still don't show up. Sometimes, this can directly lead to me suggesting to the courts that they don't go for probation, especially if the suspect has a couple of priors.

  • That's a really cool setup! And the diagram too! How did you draw that? XD

Also, a stupid question, since the Jellyfin connection will be going in and out through my public router, unencrypted, won't media consumption through it look like downloading or the likes? Jellyfin sessions aren't looked for by the powers that be? XD

  • my face looked like I was put in a sack with a cat and thrown into a river

I laughed hard and loud at this. GREAT description! 🤣

I really would like to try one of these straight razors one day. Have you tried those that use disposable blades? For instance, those that I use, you could actually fold into two, right in the middle, and use it in one of those, they say.

  • Sweet.

I have no experience whatsoever with private trackers, but this story really got me intrigued. Is it possible for me to apply (?) for a private tracker, be a part of it, while also keeping seeding that which I have now? Maybe I'm just overthinking it and there is no conflict between seeding on public trackers at the same time?

  • In addition to what @snowsuit2654@piefed.blahaj.zone pointed out, I also ran into spaces - during an ongoing incident - in which I had no idea what was going on. Behind every door that I hastily jerked open, there could have been hazards that could have jeopardized my safety. Not incidentally, this way of thinking is also a part of a well-established first aid rendering protocol: check your own safety before rendering aid. You are no good to the person in need of help if you yourself become incapacitated or lose your life during the rescue.

  • You have helped me make up my mind. I am going to try this! 😤 Thanks for all the advice! 😊

  • Muji I miss you 😭

I wonder if they make any straight knives with the same technique as their swords. 🤣

Cool! Sometimes I also find ordinary lather, whipped up with a brush, sort of in the way... applying some pre-shave "soap" (?), which is a lot thinner than lather, often works better!

  • 25 years?! That's awesome! Now I know how long they will last at the very least. 😁

  • Oh, by the way, I have similar issues on piefed.blahaj.zone when attaching images to a comment. When I press "upload", sometimes it uploads the image twice. Must be a 🐞

  • Enough people in this world call us dumbasses. Don't do that to yourself. Beautiful pictures, btw, I'm happy for your progression!!!😊🩷🩵🤍

  • Thank you for sharing this story! Maybe it's just me, maybe I'm being silly, but it's somehow calming and it feels very valuable to hear about such "mundande" (?) aspects of people's lives.

I am really sorry that the military put you and your skin through a rough time... Well done on surviving!!!

I kid you not, I too used the Gillette Mach 3, although the Turbo, for about 15 years before finally switching to my safety razor two years ago. Mach 3 was the only thing that ever worked for me, because my skin is very sensitive. Basically the same situation as you. I always envied my friends who seemed to be able to shave daily. I tried it a few times during the years, but every time it ended in a bloodbath on my face. No pain, just a lot of blood.

Well, this was truly heartwarming. Mach 3 buddies! 😁 Here you go. I'm never getting rid of it:

  • I didn't know about slskd and thought it was a typo 🤣

  • Ahahahahaha 🤣 the username

  • Last week, as a part of my job, I was interviewing a suspect in order to write a pre-trial report for the courts in which I give my recommendations regarding parole and probation in case the suspect is found guilty. The interview was going great and the suspect was a really nice person. Suddenly, my personal safety alarm - which signals that there is a medical emergency or an ongoing assault - goes off and the display indicates that the incident is taking place just across the hall. I tell the suspect to stay put, I jump out into the hallway (first mistake), hastily pull open the door to the room in question (second mistake) and see that a colleague is having a seemingly normal conversation with a parolee. I look into my colleague's eyes to read their needs and I immediately realize that they want the parolee out of there. I look at the parolee, who's reeking of alcohol, with a kind smile and tell them, "let's take a walk 🤗" and point in the direction in which I want them to go with my left arm. The parolee follows my instructions and I keep talking to them in a calming but firm fashion. While moving towards the exit, I also give them positive affirmation on how not everybody would've been able to follow instructions in such a calm manner in such a stressful situation.

After following up with my colleague who had sounded the alarm, and who had already been taken care of by our on-site counselor, I learned that the parolee had said to my colleague, twice, "I am going to kill [some direct threat of bodily harm] you before this meeting is over".

Edit: I suddenly became unsure of whether they actually used the word "kill", but at the very least, it was about harming my colleague in some way before their meeting concluded.

  • Yeah, no problem, I'm sure they're wonderful, but I'm just too scared I think 😅🤣 maybe I'll give it a try soon 🫣
