  • What's your point? Are you banning the entire Internet?

All this stuff is still accessible once the bell rings and before they get to school, just like it was when I was a kid. Kids were still going on YouTube/MySpace/ Facebook and more to share things. This argument doesn't make sense.

You're attributing the issue of algorithms to the medium itself.

  • I like that there is a large contingent of actual socialists whether soc dems, anarchists or the dreaded tankies.

I like that there is a greater anti corporate mindset and I'm less likely to see someone justify something because "well what do you expect, businesses exist to make money".

I like that there are so many Linux and open source enthusiasts. And privacy enthusiasts. Used to be big on Reddit but became more and more niche over time.

I like that there aren't pun threads. Maybe that's not really true culture but more contrast with Reddit.

  • It's not conspiracy.

This is what happens when you make your website amenable to conservatives. That sub has grown more popular through the years and it's thanks to its satellites like KiA and others that organized and spread conservative messaging.

And right now they're taking victory laps so of course it's got a lot of activity

  • When the topic is "people are overwhelmingly misinformed on this specific issue", then yeah basically that's how it goes.

If I made a meme about how too many people associate vaccines with autism or whatever, and I got a bunch of comments from anti-vaxxers saying just that, then yeah I think the comments would provide additional evidence, yeah.

  • This thread is exactly why leftist unity communities need to make it clear to liberals that they aren't leftist.

Because otherwise you end up with what you see in these comments: a bunch of people in your "movement" who are completely willing to acquiesce to Capital

  • Please read literally any socialist theory. Or at least any criticism of the Nordic model from the left.

And understand that "middle ground" arguments are fallacious and something being the middle ground does not make it the better or correct option.

Edit: Why Social Democracy Isn't Good Enough - Second Thought

  • Your party didn't support gay marriage rights until what 2012 (at the behest of actual leftists and when it finally became politically expedient) and its major health care success was a Heritage Foundation plan full of means testing. It also actively supports an ongoing genocide.

Liberalism can never inherently provide a useful answer to the problems of capitalism, inequality, and climate change because it must protect private property rights and capital. Your party answers to corporate interests and that is a known fact.

Trump literally ran on anti-NAFTA and uses immigration as a scapegoat for peoples' economic woes.

  • Nah, I just find amusement in someone who ostensibly considers themselves political (volunteers for the Dems!) being affronted when accurately told that being leftist entails more than what talk about on NPR and NYT. Even the Wikipedia summary of leftism states the modern left is anti-capitalist and liberalism is "center-left" at best. It's just an example of the allowed spectrum of opinion and an example of how much the politico class ignores political theory outside that spectrum.

And we push back on it because allowing the right wing, mainstream media, and liberal parties to define liberalism as the left is exactly what helps push the Overton window to the right.

Instead of running away when confronted with that fact and creating a space for centrists to feel more comfortable, maybe y'all could listen instead.

  • Lol @ "who volunteered for the Democrats". Ain't that a microcosm of every American politico (especially Democrats) ignorant of actual political theory.

Imagine getting upset that someone accurately described "leftism" to you. I can only imagine it's major cognitive dissonance after a lifetime of consuming mainstream political media calling liberalism "leftist" and pushing the overton window right.

Lemmy.world already is the "normie" instance catering to liberalism. Your friend either ran into the more progressive parts of that instance or an actual leftist from a federated one. Either way, they got told an accurate take.

Anyway, can we please stop all the attempts to make this place comfortable for conservative and right wing views in the name of "growth"? Have y'all actually been on a default subreddit in the last 15 years? Would that be worth it here?
