What is the current state of Mlem development?

I've noticed that the most current post here was 22 days ago. Is Mlem still being developed?

BTW, I'm one of the Beehaw admins. Several users have reached out to me because they love Mlem so much.

EDIT: I just noticed a few comments from one of the Mlem developers here.

My Love-Hate Relationship With Lemmy – Gavi's Blog
  • @dessalines@lemmy.ml @nutomic@lemmy.ml

I am one of the Beehaw admins.

I, personally, have not had negative experiences with you or anyone else associated with the Lemmy software platform.

I appreciate that everyone here, in this thread, has been able to vocalize their praises and constructive criticisms.

I believe that it is very important, for the further development of the fediverse, to keep these conversations open to everyone involved.

Please, let us all reflect on the reasons that we are invested in the fediverse.

Personally, I believe that the fediverse has an enormous potential to replace all of the corporate-run social media platforms.

I am invested in Beehaw and the fediverse for the sake of the people.

  • Feature request: admin/mod action buttons
  • we plan to add support for mod actions and build a nice mod tool page to centralize moderation activities.

As an admin I am looking forward to this. Thank you and the Mlem team for the exceptional work!

  • How would you feel if Beehaw left the Fediverse?

I am one of the admins of Beehaw and I'm trying to get some feedback on our potential move.

Let's start out with a little Beehaw history before judgements are passed, please.

A handful of us were beta testing Tildes when we decided to have discussions on a Discord server.

We decided that our 'Northern Star' or guiding principle would culminate as 'Be Nice' with purposefully vague/flexible interpretations. Our overall goal is to provide a safe space to disenfranchised persons.

We talked for a little over a year and some of our members became impatient. Then someone stepped in to suggest a couple of platforms that we could consider getting started with.

One of those platforms was Lemmy. None of us knew, at that time, anything about ActivityPub.

During the Reddit exodus (surrounding the API outcry and blackout), our instance exploded. We were, initially, crippled by the mass amounts of users seeking refuge.

Thankfully, someone stepped in and volunteered hundreds of hours of work to stabilize our instance and refine it further.

After many hours of talks, it became clear to us that our overall goal could be achieved outside of Lemmy/ActivityPub.

Right now, we feel that Lemmy and ActivityPub have downsides that are limiting us from achieving that goal.

[RESOLVED] [Bug] Mlem 1.0.1 not loading posts nor profile

We've received a lot of reports about Android apps no longer working at Beehaw.org. About an hour ago Sync pushed an update that solved this issue. I use Mlem and can confirm that Mlem 1.0.1 does not load Beehaw.org.

  • I wholeheartedly agree

  • You reached out to Beehaw and I am responding

I am one of the Beehaw admins...we received a message from your team via another Beehaw admin.

There are some people that are considering working on better mod tools.

    See: https://discuss.online/post/12787

Let me know if I can be of further service.

I've been beta testing your app from almost the beginning. Thank you.

How does lemmy.ml handle the Reddit hug of death?

I'm the sysadmin for beehaw.org and our user-base has almost tripled in 24 hours. Our site has been crashing so much over this time period.

We do have some volunteers that are trying to figure out a reasonable solution for when this happens again four weeks from now.

    Do you have any recommendations?

    A couple more feature requests

I've gotten feedback from some moderators and the other two administrators at Beehaw.

    !

The first is to "feature" or "pin" posts whether that is local to the community or site-wide.

The second is to approve registration applications.

Which programs do y'all use for reading and writing e-mail?
  • Outlook (Firefox) on desktop. Outlook app for iPhone. Proton (Firefox) on desktop.

  • What are the most used platforms on the Fediverse?
  • Thanks for those insights.

  • What are the most used platforms on the Fediverse?
  • Thanks for the great feedback.

  • What are the most used platforms on the Fediverse?
  • That is, incredibly, helpful. Thanks so much!

  • What are the most used platforms on the Fediverse?

Are there reliable statistics that show this?

I'm trying to get an idea rolling for a mobile app that could handle the most used platforms on the Fediverse.

For example, let's assume that Mastodon, Lemmy and Peertube turned out to be the most used platforms on the Fediverse. Would people be interested in a mobile app that could properly integrate all of these?

  • Downvotes are getting through again
  • You can un upvote your own post.

    That's probably what happened...thanks!

  • Downvotes are getting through again
  • Strange. As you can see in the OP, I screen captured the post which showed a zero. Is this some weird glitch?

  • Downvotes are getting through again
  • It doesn't appear to be a federated post. You can check it if you'd like: https://beehaw.org/post/357499

    Downvotes are getting through again

We've disabled downvotes at Beehaw and this issue was addressed/fixed for some time. However, as you can see, downvotes are getting through again.

How would an instance admin 'sticky' or 'pin' a post to the top of an instance's feed?

I believe that I remember this being an added option with the Lemmy 0.17.2 release. However, I'm unable to find this option.

Entire communities are empty and some post comments can't be seen when I'm logged in as an admin.
  • Well, that's a bug isn't it? Now that I've set it back to undetermined everything works normally again.

When I'm logged out I can see everything as it's supposed to be. However, when I'm logged in as one of the admins of our instance, then there are entire communities that are empty and some post comments are not visible.

Lemmy's Join a server page is missing lots of instances

It's not just Beehaw but several other instances are missing from the Join a server page.

Was this caused by the bot/crawler not being updated to handle the new Lemmy version?

How does the 'purge community' link function?

I'm assuming that this link is only available to instance admins? What, precisely, happens when this link is clicked?

[RESOLVED] Getting a 404 Fetch Error When Attempting to Upgrade to 0.17.0

I made the two version number changes to my docker-compose.yml file. Ran Docker Compose Down then Docker Compose Up -D.

Visit https://beehaw.org and you'll see the error in your browser:

Is there an app that includes most of the popular corners of the 'Fediverse'?

I'm assuming, out of all the Activity-Pub connected 'Fediverse', there are a handful of instances that get the most activity.

That being assumed, is there an app (mobile and otherwise) that, functionally, includes most of these instances?

For example, is there an app that can seamlessly handle Mastodon, Lemmy, Friendica, Hubzilla, Peertube, etc?

Fediverse and ActivityPub. What are all the platforms that interconnect with each other?

My understanding is that Mastodon, Pleroma and Lemmy can connect with each other using ActivityPub.

Are there other platforms that share this same interconnection?

Questions regarding Unity, Windows and gaming

My two sons will be getting a Windows gaming PC for their upcoming Christmas gift.

However, one of my sons has expressed their desire to use Unity.

I've been looking at this MSI Cubi for their gaming desires.

However, when I looked at the free/personal download specs for Unity, I noticed that Windows 11 is not supported.

Maybe I'm going about all of this the wrong way? I just want a Windows machine that would handle most of the popular games out there that would support the use of Unity.

Please, help us solve this problem.

    2
Please, recommend some mobile games for iOS?

I am brand new to mobile gaming lol.

I have done some searching around but I'm unable to find anything that suits my interests.

I prefer games that are MMORPG or RPG the most (recently uninstalled Diablo Immortal for many reasons). However, I am open to any and all suggestions.

What is happening with the Lemmy mobile apps?

It's my, general, understanding that most people connect to the Internet through mobile apps.

If this is the case, then why have apps such as Remmel, Lemmur and jerboa taken a back seat?

IMHO, it would be a mistake to market Lemmy without these mobile apps functioning properly.

I have forked the three aforementioned mobile apps here and will try to 'drum up' support from developers wherever I can find them.

Please, if you don't feel comfortable talking to me about this here, then send me a private message. Thank you.
