America’s largest retailer sounds alarm on consumer spending
  • I did not say there weren't downturns. We never had a great depression until we had the Federal Reserve. So, they have caused them to be worse. Before, when a business acted irresponsible, they went bankrupt and closed their doors, and the people who invested in that business lost money. However, now, in general, businesses are not allowed to fail, and zombie companies are continuing to exist and not being culled. Eventually, they do fail, but when they do, it's way worse because now instead of a couple failing, there's tens of thousands at once.

  • If you don't prepare for it, absolutely. If you are prepared for it, recessions are actually a really great thing. Just like rain, you know it's going to rain, so you bring an umbrella to work with you so you don't get wet.

Edit: To be fair, if we did not have central banks and we're using a gold standard, then we would not have to worry about depressions and booms and busts, because we would have inflation of roughly 1% per year, depending on how much gold we could physically mine. Fiat currency and central banks cause booms and busts and transfer money from the poor to the wealthy.

  • How do I link directly to a post inside a Lemmy instance?
  • That might be kind of difficult because each post is going to be different depending on instance, so there won't be one universal link to it. What I would do is post a link to the community like this "/c/CommunityName@instance.tld"

Edit: as an example, this community for me is https://monero.town/c/lemmy_support@lemmy.ml which i can shorten to /c/lemmy_support@lemmy.ml

  • TTS applications
  • Define "screen reading". If you mean like for blind people you will have to turn on talkback from accessibility options, download Android Accessibility Suite from the play store or Talkback_TFP from fdroid. If you just mean apps reading something themselves the app has to support that. I know feeder (rss reader) and librera reader do and osmand does too

  • herb costs
  • Okay, that's the kind of information I needed to know. So, it's 166mg flower weight which with 30% thc would give 49.8mg and if only 20% of that gets to you that is 9.96mg for you? And so my 2 hits of the cart at 8-12mg is equal to rolling a joint of ~200mg flower?

  • herb costs
  • Yeah, thats 166mg per smoke and way to high for me. I am using a cart and 2 hits gets me where i want (im new) and that is 8-12mg. I need my tolerance to go up before doing much more. Made that mistake once and was convinced for hours my house was burning down. That was a bad night and i dont care for a repeat.

  • herb costs
  • Ah, i have heard you cant pack a bong to loosly but good to know that you can with dry herb vapes. Can you just turn it off before it toasts everything or does it waste herb while cooling down? Because if you can turn it off that would work too.

  • herb costs
  • How do you control your dose dry herb vaping? With an auto draw vape cart i can just stop whenever i am ready, but the one dry herb vape (planet of the vapes one) i looked at vaporizes whatever is put in the chamber and you get like 180 seconds before its all used up. I am not yet to the point where i am comfortable using a dose that high.

Edit: the flower i am looking at is 20%-32% so if i measured out say 250mg for the chamber thats a 50-80mg dose and i am not to that point yet

  • herb costs

Note: i refer to delta-8 and THCa flower

From what i can tell vaping appears to be the cheapest way to enjoy your herbs. A d8 .510 cart is $12-$20 for a 1g cart and each cart has ~150 hits so each hit is $0.08-$0.14. Now edibles on the other hand sound super expensive. A 1000mg (1g) thing of d8 gummies is $60 for 40 gummies or $1.50 per gummy. Each of these gummies have 25mg of d8 in them. To vape 25mg would need ~5 hits and cost $0.40-$0.65. Or am i way the fuck off base and fucked up my maths. Always did suck in that class.

Edit: i have also heard that vaping is better because it uses much lower temps and doesnt burn off most of the terps before they get to you.

    http vs https

Most sites i see on tor are http://blahblahblah.onion even for sites that have logins such as dread or pitch. However, duckduckgo appears to have an https onion which i didnt think was possible. Now the question is if i submit my user/pass on an http onion is it actually safe and is my session with that site properly secure? I know in transport to me it is secure, but if the exit node knows i want the pitch onion is my account info safe from that node since pitch is http.

Does not actually require orbot. InviZible Pro works as well. That setting just expects a proxy host of 127.0.0.1 port 9050

    [MEGATHREAD] Speedtests November 2023

Welcome to this month's speedtest megathread. Yep, you heard that right, it's time to show off your speeds.

    Format

Location (city, state), Downlink, Uplink, Device, Notes. An example would look like this: "Minneapolis, MN, 554 down, 31 up, Google Pixel 7a, taken in downtown".

    Rules

    1. No screenshots. They take up valuable server space, require more bandwidth, and are not accessible to screen reader users.
    2. If you live in a small town or rural area please fudge your location a little. As an example if i lived in Olive Hill, Ky (population 1580) I might use Grayson, Ky (population 3834) instead.
