  • OK, let's say somebody who hates you to the core and wants to see you dead made software you found great. All they said was stuff like "I think your kind deserves to be shot", "your kind are subhuman", "they hung your kind and I see nothing wrong with that".

Would you use their software? Would you enjoy being part of the numbers that they use to validate getting money, maybe even power? Would you publicly promote their software? Would you get others to use it? Would you even donate to them? Would you get others to donate to them?

  • Usually it is as this point things turn to shit in opensource/community/fediverse/cooperative. The devs are not the product.

What does this even mean? Who creates something doesn't matter at all? If that's the case, then using Microshaft products doesn't matter, does it? They can provide the infra and software for bombing Gaza but who cares right? They make software that is worth using so we should keep giving them money. No problem.

  • Oh no, I bet you there's a fair few who think rust is woke and deeply connecting with programming socks --> it should be cancelled.

IMO it's also an ideological fit for the current right wingers who connect Rust to progress and use progress as an insult. Since they can't fight Rust on its merits, they have to make up whatever argument they can that fits their narrative.

  • Another place where Europe needs to throw off the US shackles. Import and exporting goods is not a problem, but allowing one country to monopolise your critical infrastructure is a decision that's beyond stupid. Sometimes the decision is forced, but once there is power to eject the monopoly and the decision is made not to, that's incredibly stupid.

The Trump administrations showing their true colors has been the eye opener the world needed.

  • What a surprise. I makes me think of the US women treating Eastern Asian women who married western men like whores, victims, or gold-diggers. Many people think about the world locally, not internationally. They apply their ways of thinking to the rest of the world and have trouble understanding that what is normal for me isn't normal for you (and vice versa). They have trouble understanding that things aren't always as they seem and making a summary judgement about a person from a short slice of their life, which they can interpret wrong, does not a person make.
