I'm an American and I'm here to tell you that Americans who say shit like that are just pretending to care about free speech, if they even understand what "free speech" actually means. They're fascists trying to defend fascism while using the idea of free speech as a way to avoid admitting that's what they're doing.
You clearly have no idea who has guns, or why they have them, or what their actual stances on gun regulation are. You seem to be under the impression that gun owners are a monolith. There are lots of leftist gun owners you never see because they keep it on the down low.
Most of them now seem to follow a fucked-up interpretation of the Fairness Doctrine that requires them to always give the impression that there are no meaningful differences between the parties, which translates into painting Republicans as a perfectly normal, reasonable political party.
