I’m going to say something controversial to some of us: It’s because Jewish people are the fascists this time around. Israel is a militarized police and tech surveillance state whose leader will be ousted if the war stops so he went on the offensive. Schumer’s seat is only up in 2028 but if enough of his allies - preferably in safe seats - get primaried in 26 and the new progressives hold them in the general election (and hopefully win some back from GOP) I expect he will be forced out of leadership for the next Congress
It has to have enough shift to progressives or else he will take credit and stay on. He will also be ousted if Democrats lose again but in that scenario MAGA will continue unchecked for 2 more years at least

He does nothing. In theory he would be an opposition leader but he's happy to play the "not quite as bad as Trump" role, which means he won't do anything to actually stop Trump.
He's the most senior Senator in the democratic party, he's as entrenched as they come.

In this very interesting video Tom Nicholas describes the transition from modernism to post-modernism to a new thing called metamodernism.
One thing he points out is that post-modernist political parties of all stripes avoided having actual stances and thought just playing the part of a politician - wear suits, use the right hand gestures, say the right words - was enough to get elected.
This is almost exactly what Schumer is doing here. As a post-modernist politician he can create his own reality and ignore actual facts.
Nobody appreciates the artistry that goes into writing a good angry but very polite and subservient letter these days.
