What have you been reading this week? [June 26-July 2, 2023]
  • I just started reading P. Djeli Clark's A Master of Djinn but I'm not far enough in to know if I'll really like it. So far so good, though.

  • "Assume the role of a Chinese immigrant"? 没问题.
  • I don't think it's 嗎, looks more like 吧 to me, which also has question like properties. But you're definitely right about the question mark not being included until much later. The character alone says it's a question.

  • Am I the only one that feels lemmy is boring?
  • This a thousand times. I mainly lurked on Reddit and I'm trying to actually contribute here. Sometimes I fear that no one will care what I have to say, but someone needs to start the conversation.

  • What are you currently reading, and general thoughts so far?
  • City of Beasts by Isabel Allende. Didn't realize it was for young adults until after I bought it, but it's pretty good so far!

  • Let's not have global Lemmy default to US (or some region)
  • Thanks. Not sure why I typed that lol

  • Let's not have global Lemmy default to US (or some region)
  • It's actually closer to 1.5 billion TOTAL speakers of English. Most English speaking people learned it as a second language.

    Edit: billion not million

  • Weebs of Lemmy, What's your favourite anime?
  • Fair enough, it's definitely not for everyone. I think that's also before the Chimera Ant arc, which is the point at which the anime becomes incredibly dark and changes tone.

  • Yahaha - You found my wife stained glass shop!
  • These are incredibly cool! I don't have the funds for one now but I've put one in my Etsy cart and will buy it when I get paid.

  • Weebs of Lemmy, What's your favourite anime?
  • Hunter x Hunter, Way of the househusband, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Fullmetal Alchemist, both the original and Brotherhood

  • I do declare
  • There may or may not be but definitely is a mutiny happening

  • Introduce Yourself!
  • Hello! You can just call me Gone. (They/them)

I'm in my thirties and have been living in Taiwan for about five and a half months after living in the US for all my life. I teach English but will probably move back to America at the end of January next year. My goal when I get back is to teach English to immigrants in the US.

Lately I've been trying to learn Mandarin Chinese so I can speak with the people around me (also it's just a cool language) and watching all the anime that Netflix has in Taiwan. I like doing outdoor activities like going for walks and shorts hikes.

As for music I've mostly been listening to music in Mandarin, since it's helping me learn the language. Astro Bunny, Good Band and Shadow Project have been my go-tos.

  • Which Futurama line(s) do you find yourself quoting for no raisin?
  • What crazy thing happening are you guys screaming about?
