  • Well, that's probably only true for some people and only for a certain period after coming out to yourself. Sure, it was euphoric feeling seen in my gender identity when I faced misogyny for the first few times. But once I felt more at home in my gender identity, it wasn't pleasant anymore.

I actually know plenty of cis straight women who are repeatedly seeking out men that treat them awfully because they think they don't deserve anything else. I would so far as to say that straight culture is based on misogyny.

  • Hm, I have the opposite feeling as well. In a heavily fragmented area without any primary forests left (Germany) I still find sooo many species that were invisible to me before I dared to look. I cannot imagine how it must have been before when humans hadn't had such an impact on the ecosystem.

But then I also notice how all of these species exist despite our influence. How they try to keep on living in our cities. And that's indeed very sad.

  • Less so with friends, because most of them are queer and/or trans themselves. But sometimes I have that same thought regarding all the other people I know, like my family, flatmates, or just strangers...

  • All of these were really cool to see!! Especially devious were those parasitic ants :O

  • I feel like these are all things that I also go through as a (probably mostly???) binary trans person. I don't really know who I want to be yet and have to discover this, too. I think it is always as much about finding yourself as it is about finding the right gender and gender expression.

On days when I feel confident in myself, I also enjoy this very specific mood of nonconforming and messing with people's perception of gender :)

Would be great if you wanted to post here!!

  • What isn't iconic in nature though? Plants also have turned into similar looking herbs and shrubs over and over again. Or look at epiphytes! If there is an available niche it will get filled. And since plants all start with more or less the same basics, they fill it similarly. Evolution likes to repurpose stuff.

  • Wow, the Wikipedia article definitely is worth a read! This thing is over the top bad :O

(But, as someone pointed out, this clearly isn't the species in the OP, which has divided leaves with three leaflets.)

  • That's just capitalism though and it has moved on. I don't think you can really start a radical movement on Instagram. Capitalism will sell you radical looking stuff as long you keep engaged, but it won't change anything.

  • You're probably right, yeah...

  • Non-binary and trans are not separate concepts though. I identify being trans, but that doesn't mean I have to be super binary. And the struggles my non-binary friends face are also mostly the same. It is certainly harder to use they/them, neopronouns or no pronouns. But I can still relate with that struggle very much and support wherever I can.

But I agree that it is hard to relate to most trans memes posted here. They are often very binary and rooted in gender stereotypes. But I think this isn't a you-problem and more of a problem of this specific lemmy community and various trans spaces online. As a trans person, I'd wish there would be more nuanced and relatable takes, not so much idealization of cat girls and anime...

Regarding the OP, I wouldn't be interacting with strangers like this because I'm socially too anxious.

  • It's the Rod of Asclepius, not to be confused with the caduceus!

There are various theories why this symbol was invented. The one that makes most sense to me is that it depicts a (formerly widespread) parasitic nematode being removed by wrapping it around a stick to slowly draw it out of the body.

For a visual demonstration of the parasite and its removal: Bizarre Beasts - When is extinction the 'right' choice?

  • Could anyone explain this to me? I get why the astronaut would think the alien counts in base 4, but I don't understand the alien's response

  • Wow, krass!!! Auch interessanter Text zu den Metadaten

  • A friend of mine (from Palestine) taught me another trick with garlic: mince the garlic, then generously sprinkle it with coriander powder and mash it all together with a fork. Add to a dish (like a sauce or a stew) when it's already mostly cooked, just at the end. It has a pretty intense flavor and is really yummy.
