  • Where's the lie? I agree there is some whataboutism, but in this case the hypocrisy of your position is so striking that it needs to be pointed out.

  • Crocodile tears indeed. It's interesting that you seem to care so much about the genocide in Gaza, but can't quite bring yourself to express the slightest concern about the illegal and vicious Russian invasion of Ukraine. Are innocent Palestinians worth caring about, but not innocent Ukrainians? According to your post history, you are in fact generally supportive of Putin's actions in Ukraine. If you only oppose genocidal acts in which the US supplies weapons, but handwave away a literal direct invasion by Russia, then you're just engaged in partisan propaganda. I don't think you can be taken seriously as someone who is anti-genocide if you think that it all depends on who is committing the genocide, and/or who is the target.

  • tbh I think it's probably more of an autism / social anxiety thing but many people with ADHD have more than one disorder, so i thought it was still relatable, at least for some people.

  • I hope someone DMs you an invite. Remember to edit/append the post title with " - FINISHED" once you do get an invite.

Tagging those people who recently got an invite as a reminder to please share some of their giveaway invitations (hint: login to your DrunkenSlug account then go to https://drunkenslug.com/profile to be able to email out one of the 3x invitations you got when you signed up):

Let's keep this ball rolling :)

  • It seems to me that academics who study horseshoe theory routinely miss the point. For example, the Wikipedia article on this topic uses this to try to refute the theory:

Simon Choat, a senior lecturer in political theory at Kingston University, has criticized the horseshoe theory. In a 2017 article for The Conversation, "'Horseshoe theory' is nonsense – the far right and far left have little in common", he argues that far-left and far-right ideologies only share similarities in the vaguest sense, in that they both oppose the liberal democratic status quo, but that the two sides have very different reasons and very different aims for doing so.[29] Choat uses the issue of globalization as an example;[30] both the far-left and the far-right attack neoliberal globalization and its "elites", but identify different elites and have conflicting reasons for attacking them.[31]

But it's a total strawman. Nobody is arguing that tankies oppose or support the same things as Nazis, or that they share the same goals. What they have in common is an embrace of authoritarianism. Of course the tankies like different authoritarians, like Maduro or Putin instead of Hitler or Mussolini. But the love, or at least tolerance, for authoritarianism is the one thing they have in common - that the ends justify the means.

  • Calm down buddy. It's just a fun meme. Read the comments for context.

  • That's true - Raymond Hill, the uBO developer, doesn't accept donations or payment for his software. Truly a legend. I'd 100% donate to them if they accepted donations.

The meme is about Adblock Plus though which does have a paid tier. I prefer uBO myself, but if you are stuck with Safari then it's a legit option.

  • If you prefer the one curated by an individual then go with rentry version. If you prefer the one maintained by the community then go with the wiki version. The wiki is basically a fork and has diverged from the rentry version in places.

Yes, edits are limited to members of the dbzer0 instance, but anyone else can view it. There's an element of trust involved in any wiki with public edits. Hopefully our community would notice any problematic edits so they can be reverted. But since edit access is tied to an instance account, anyone found vandalizing the wiki can be easily banned.

  • Yeah it's not their best work. I'm wondering if they just rushed this out too quickly.

  • Yeah I agree with you, but I guess fact checkers are by their very nature quite pedantic.

  • @sunbrothersco@lemmy.dbzer0.com maintains the Megathread and it is the same one linked in the sidebar for both Reddit and here. You can contact them for edits.

I did make a django wiki clone of the Megathread (community edition) a while back that members of this instance can make edits on. It can be found here: https://wiki.dbzer0.com/piracy/

  • Interesting post, but it'd be good if you could post it in a more suitable community, since this is a memes community. Per the sidebar:

[...] This is a place for undogmatic shitposting and memes from a progressive, anti-capitalist and truly anti-imperialist perspective, regardless of specific ideology.

Serious posts, news, and discussion go in c/Socialism.

  • Feel free to crosspost any articles from here to other communities where it might be of interest. The crosspost button is shown below for anyone who may not have used it before*:

  • The words you are looking for are "russian authoritarian propagandist". Technically not fascist, but just as reprehensible.

  • I hear ya, but sometimes it's instructive to hold your nose and look inside the belly of the beast. Because to counter disinformation, it's useful to know how it works. And although the article is focussed on Putin, this concept applies equally to Trump and his imitators.
