  • Nice, thanks for letting me know! I’ve updated the post.

  • Speaking personally, I like it. I loved the skeuomorphic design of the old OS X and classic iOS, and am glad to see the design language return to something fun and grounded in physicality without sacrificing too much of the ultra clean style of later iOS versions. I do have some concerns about accessibility, as the contrast on glass is much lower, and the new language brings some interesting challenges, but overall I think it’s a pleasing change and I’m excited to see how it matures.

  • Long term we want to integrate the more sophisticated iOS 26 tab bar design. Right now we still support iOS 18, which makes using those new features difficult because they are only available on 26. Once we drop support for 18, there’ll definitely be some tab bar upgrades.

  • Thanks for bringing this to my attention! We’re looking into it.

  • We’re definitely still refining how we use the new design language, and we’ve played around with some iterations on that concept. The core challenge right now is retaining compatibility with iOS 18, which limits which new features we can use. For small components like the jump button it’s pretty easy to support both an iOS 18 and an iOS 26 version, but the tab bar is foundational to the whole app’s architecture so we probably won’t get to utilize the full extent of the new tab bar options until we drop support for iOS 18.

  • It’s currently sitting in app review—I’ll add a note to the post saying as much. My bad, didn’t realize!

    Mlem for Lemmy 2.2

  • Hmm, that's a new one! Mlem's audio is supposed to mix with other apps rather than stealing the audio session. Does this only happen with airplay, or do you also encounter it when using built-in or bluetooth audio output?

  • Not yet, but it will soon! We’re currently wrapping up our 2.2 build, which focuses on PieFed support. Once that releases we’re moving on to iOS26 support, which will include a design update to integrate Apple’s new design language.

  • Thanks for the bug report! We’re looking into it.

  • Thanks for the bug report! We’re looking into it.

  • Mlem is written in Swift using SwiftUI, which is not currently supported on Android. We’ve been keeping tabs on several promising projects to support cross-platform SwiftUI development, but none of them are mature enough yet for us to bring Mlem to Android.

  • Not yet, but we’re planning to get that functionality in for the upcoming release. Currently the only way to get to a PieFed instance page is by navigating from the profile or community information of a PieFed entity.

  • Thanks! That does look like a server error—generally 504 is a gateway issue. I suggest bringing it up with your admins.
