Life of O'Brien
  • They are one of the few couples we see on Star Trek that aren't some kind of superhero couple (Book and Michael, Stamets and Culber, even Torres and lizard boy) and care about each other and the family they're raising together.

I think it's just that as the only married couple like that, they end up having to be the sole focus of all the "married couple" tropes for the writers; there weren't any other couples to write them about.

  • Bluesky Might End Up Defeating Twitter Once and for All
  • https://bsky.social/about/blog/10-24-2024-series-a

This does not change the fact that the Bluesky app and the AT Protocol do not use blockchains or cryptocurrency, and we will not hyperfinancialize the social experience (through tokens, crypto trading, NFTs, etc.). To ensure we and our users benefit fully from this expertise, partner Kinjal Shah will join our board.

So we'll see how long before the VC enshittification begins.

Edit: do you have to be male to be a cryptobro? Cryptosis?

    https://www.blockchaincapital.com/team/kinjal-shah

Prior to joining Blockchain Capital, Kinjal was a Senior Consulting Analyst at Fidelity Investments in Boston. At Fidelity, Kinjal was an integral part of the strategic team developing Fidelity’s blockchain initiatives, as well as the strategy behind new asset management products.

Kinjal earned her B.S. in Quantitative Economics from Tufts University. She is a co-founder of Komorebi Collective, an investment DAO, funding female and non-binary founders in crypto.

Revealed: The Israel Lobbyists Writing America’s News
  • It seems impossible to share these facts without being told (and even feeling myself) like I'm saying there's a Jewish conspiracy to control the media. And I know that isn't accurate, but it feels close enough to that.

  • ‘Mass deportations would disrupt the food chain’: Californians warn of ripple effect of Trump threat
  • The thing is he could do nothing, and then tell his supporters, "I did it! I deported all the bad guys!" And they would cheer and say, "Wow everything is better now. We love Trump."

When you've convinced the people of a fake problem you can just give them a fake solution. "I scared away the monster under your bed."

  • Do you think that permabanning is harsh?
  • Mostly yes: In a sense, doing anything "permanently and forever" is a big deal. People can change and grow, and a full permanent ban without any opportunity for appeal seems harsh. Very few things should warrant a permaban: one example that comes to mind is willfully attempting to circumvent a temporary ban. Posting spam, too.

Also no: Lemmy isn't and shouldn't be a critical part of anyone's life. If you were forever banned from it, maybe it's okay.

Let me know if this gets annoying. He's probably going to live in here for the time being. Hopefully not causing too much mischief. A little is ok.

grist.org NYC's food delivery workers are sweltering in the heat — and demanding more protection

New York City, the city that never sleeps, is also an incredibly hard place to take a break — if your job is jetting across town on a bike delivering takeout and groceries. “As things stand, there isn’t a designated place for us to rest while working,” Antonio Solis, an app-based delivery worker fro...

Govee Smart Fan 2 w/ Matter: thoughts and connectivity/reset tips

I picked up a couple of these fans for my home, and after some initial setup quirks, they're working reliably with Matter and HomeKit. HomeKit lets you adjust fan speed and oscillation; you cannot adjust the oscillation angles. These fans can push a lot of air if you want, and on lower settings they're totally silent while still providing a pleasant breeze.

Folks are discussing it on that other site, but since I don't use it, I wanted to post some things here. Hopefully so DDG/Google/Bing can still find useful results. Someone can link Redditors to here if they want:

    • Pairing and control (when not responsive): Any HomeKit pairing and control issues could be because the Govee app cannot be open or running at the same time. I have to force quit the Govee app on my phone in order to get it to relinquish control to HomeKit. I hope Govee figures out how to remove this limitation, but I don't use their app so I don't care too much.
    • Hard reset instructions: The Reddit thread (and Govee website!) have it wrong. To reset the device, you have to hold the Mode and Timer buttons for 5 seconds. This is mentioned on a little paper insert they included with the fan.

Like the community on the other site, this is a place to share your experiences using the TooGoodToGo app. It let's you buy food from bakeries, cafes, buffets, and restaurants that they would otherwise throw out at the end of the day.
