Specifically worth pointing out the research and refinement of the skinner boxes in mobile games today is a continuous and ongoing process, with revenue also being continuous and ongoing. Any games and moral panic of 80s to 2000s were about products that didn’t change after release and were one-time only purchases.
Modern mobile games vs. shareware are incomparable in terms of harm they could do, real or perceived.
Nice. I’ll take any good news I can get for peoples’ freedoms. IIRC this was a relatively recent Supreme Court election in WI. Every vote (still) matters.
“Pride Month is over. We don’t even have to pretend to care anymore.”
“Death by lollipop hugging.”
They’re moIna! They look exactly like the picture halfway down this page: https://tropical-fish-keeping.com/moina-moina-macrocopa.html
States’ Rights!*
Demand for rights only applies to states, not counties, cities, towns, or villages. Only Republican governors and legislatures are eligible for rights for their state.
I got a good in focus short right around 0:30 in the video. idk they look so much like these brine shrimp: https://www.swelluk.com/swell-live-artemia-brine-shrimp
You’re right they look a lot like scuds but red! Maybe they’re extra rich in beta carotene. Only thing is scuds usually swim smoothly and these tiny bois kind of jerk around like daphnia or copepods. Hmmm. In any case even the fry like eating them. Just wish they weren’t growing in my dirty lotus flower pot 😅
I know this is a first-world problem, but I do bristle at the (current) NYC "Mansion Tax" maybe just because of its name. It defines a "mansion" as a home that sells for $1M+. My 1BR apartment cost about that much lol, how's that a "mansion"?
Getting a lotus started and ready to place in my indoor pond. These things aren’t moving like daphnia. What are they? They kind of look like brine shrimp …

They don’t move like daphnia and I do hatch baby brine shrimp. Did I get some eggs in here somehow? This many?!
“Bribe us and we’ll let you use indentured labor.”
Aww. Will he share that stick? It looks pretty nice.
Can’t let the poors realize that government can actually be effective and help them …
Patel: "I'll get right on it, boss."
Oh don't worry they don't need anything from you to breed 😉
Edit: yeah from above in bright light, especially sunlight or uv they really glow!!
Medaka are Japanese rice fish. They're very easy to keep, prolific breeders, and people have been raising them with all kinds of colors and styles.
They're bred to be beautiful when viewed from above, and in Japan people often keep them outdoors in small pots. Even over winter!

If you do, you won't know how much momentum he's attacking you with.
Baby brine shrimp getting circulated by the filter current right into the mouths of these babies. So many babies. Send help 😅

So many fry; send help 😅
These are baby brine shrimp I hatched that are being circulated by the current of the filter/bubbles.
The medaka are growing up in a tiny hatching tank because my planted grow-out tank is still cycling. This is just a portion of the fry. I don't think I transferred this many fry over from my indoor pond; I bet a bunch of eggs came attached to the plants that I added in. Not pictured are also a few white cloud mountain minnow and peacock gudgeon fry.
Please please please let this one good thing happen.
American Dad
Is there a different version of the joke, that follows on from Indiana Jones?
I just really don't like working with soil in my apartment, so I thought to try growing a bunch of plants in a DWC-style (I think) setup. I used egg crate to create a platform inside a nice brass p...

Semi-hydro is so popular now, but everyone says to replace the water every few days because it runs out of oxygen. Coming from the aquarium/pond world I thought, "what if I put an extra bubble thing+pump into the pot?"
Apparently that's DWC. But so many of the ready-to-use DWC setups are...kind of ugly. I think people use them more for vegetables or weed. The caladium are from bulbs (etsy and Home Depot), the tradescantia are cuttings I took from a coworker's plant, and the "Ti" plants are still just logs I'm propagating that are showing their first little nubs now. Using aquarium liquid fertiizers.
I just want to avoid having a bunch of dirt in my apartment. Sweeping it, vacuuming, dirt stains...
Cute little shrimp decided to explore while I was rearranging a few things in my pond.

This was while I was rearranging a few things in my indoor pond.
Captured unexpectedly on my submerged camera in my indoor pond in my apartment. Does it look like my neocaridina was moulting? Do you think it survived? I know the video cuts off too early to say; ...

I know I know my underwater indoor pond camera blinked out right as we were going to see more. Does it look like it was moulting? Do you think it survived? A few seconds later I saw a loose bit of shell in the water…
I'm still figuring out how I'm going to set up a planted aquarium, after last having goldfish as a kid about 30 years ago. So forgive my naivete!
On that other big social media site, there's the AquaSwap community where I see a bunch of folks local to me in NYC are trading/selling/buying all manner of aquarium stuff (fish, plants, hardscape, more).
So for my friends on Lemmy: do you participate in trade with your local community? Where are they? Are they only on that other website…? Meetups? Mailing lists?

I haven't tasted anything yet. It looks acceptable. Not the best deal, not the worst either.

It's FICSMAStime

Let me know if this gets annoying. He's probably going to live in here for the time being. Hopefully not causing too much mischief. A little is ok.
