Having the ability to lie and manipulate with no remorse will get you much further in this world than having morals and being correct
  • It makes a lot of sense. Lying and manipulation are done specifically to achieve goals. A defining characteristic of morals is that you're supposed to follow them even if it's neutral or disadvantageous for you. If someone follows "morals" to achieve a personal goal, they're not actually following morals, they're just acting in a way that incidentally looks moral.

  • I'm getting weird DM's on fediverse rule
  • I'm active in this guys' matrix group for sigma males. I love it there as an eccentric, dominant and mysterious introvert. I’ve been described as an alpha a few times (even by my wife) but I never felt 100% comfortable with the term. The big difference is that I’m a loner in my free time. Some of my biggest hobbies are reading, listening to podcasts and audiobooks. Constantly learning and improving.

I don’t care about socializing with people after work etc. I always have conflicts with alphas (who underestimate or feel threatened by me) and I MUST shut them down and put them in their places. I get a great sense of satisfaction from this. Lol But it’s also exhausting and takes the fun out of socializing. Kind of like swatting gnats. I’d rather contemplate the universe or human consciousness.

A lot of alphas seem insecure and have a constant need for constant validation which I find incredibly weak and pathetic.

At work I’m all business and I want to lead and take control of everything. However, I am good at playing the supporting role and being a team player. I always want to help people maximize their potential and brighten their day with humor. Women seem to love me even though I don’t put any effort into it. I’m just 100% real, humorous and of course mysterious!

Enough self absorbed bullshit. (My ego takes over at times)

I don’t know many other guys exactly like myself. I’m excited to compare notes with you all. Whereas alphas seem to compete against each other(often in the form of pissing contests), we sigmas seem to be kindred spirits. Even though we are lone wolves, it’s good to sometimes feel like we aren’t alone. Cheers mates.

  • What are your favourite single-player games without much fluff, grinding or difficulty spikes?

Hello, in the recent years I find myself willing to spend much less time and energy on games, but I do still enjoy them. Oftentimes I end up quitting a new game I tried out relatively early on, because I'm encountering some block, grind, non-optional boring side quest, empty open world, uninteresting clutter or details that I have to manage, or similar. Like, I just wanna play the actual game play, see how the story continues, and visit those areas that were designed with care. Not worry where on the map I can sell the glimbrunses I collected so I can buy a 37% stronger glarpidifice that I'll need to beat the next glutrey after which I'm allowed to continue the main story.

Sorry if this turned into some kind of a rant, but I hope it's understandable what I'm looking for and what I meant by fluff. Some games that have fulfilled this for me during the last years:

    • Stray
    • Skyrim (there's a lot of fluff you can worry about in Skyrim, but the thing is you don't have to worry about it, you can also just walk in any direction and see what situation you wind up in, at least for the first 10-20h of a playthrough, which IMO is enough time for a game anyway)
    • Life is Strange
    • Some Pokémon ROM hacks where the difficulty spikes were not too harsh

Looking forward to hear your suggestions :) Games where there is some fluff but you're allowed to just ignore it are also fine, but not having any fluff is preferred. Bonus points for anything on the Xbox game pass.

I am new to Lemmy after trying to use reddit and being scared away, since most of you are former reddit users can you explain why reddit is run the way it is ?
  • I think your fundamental misunderstanding is how many people just scroll, lurk and at most comment. Let's call those passive users. They are many and therefore worth catering to. Reddit, especially the big subreddits, are engagement generators. Their point is not to answer the questions that you as an individual might have. Their point is to maximize engagement. Providing the kind of content that keeps thousands of passive users engaged in the app has more monetary value than letting you as an individual post your personal question. So it's geared towards letting users with a solid track record of creating engagement post easily, while being careful with users who don't have that track record.

You can see this in supermarkets too. Hundred different types of sweets but if I simply want nuts roasted without oil, I'm out of luck? Why? Because there's orders of magnitude more people who will buy stuff without reading the ingredients. The people who care about not having oil added to their nuts are so relatively few that they're not worth catering to by a mass-appealing supermarket.

At least those are my theories, not that I have any inside knowledge.

  • [Nutrition] What is your alternative to avoid eating broccoli and chicken all week?
  • For veggies, I usually get frozen mixed veggies, it's more varied and some even have mushrooms mixed in there making them very tasty. Or I cook some tomato-based sauce.

For protein, I mostly eat Skyr and Tofu. Eggs, nuts and lentils also have good protein content, but they have other macros as well.

Unless you're doing some aggressive 1000kcal deficit every day, there's also plenty of space for "normal" meals in each day. Just do the math for the macros you need to eat for your goal. I don't think eating only veggies + protein is a good idea long term.

  • "No, I am your father."

"You're absolutely right! When Obi-Wan told me about my father's death, he probably meant that the person he knew my father as is dead, since your personality and appearance have changed drastically since then. I'm glad we could clear up this misunderstanding!"

  • Fixing broken Oblivion Remastered difficulty without mods?

Hello, I am currently playing a high elf spellsword around level 18 on Xbox (so no mods). I maxed out the intelligence and destruction skill a few levels ago and unfortunately the strength of destruction spells is completely broken. I one-shot or two-shot pretty much any enemy I meet with a custom touch fire spell. It's not even min-maxed, I could increase the damage per magicka by making the damage hit more slowly and adding frost and shock damage. My blade damage is negligible in comparison and at this point I just swing the sword for aesthetics. It takes a lot of fun out of the game.

This is on adept difficulty. If I move to expert, the difficulty goes from way too easy to way too hard. Especially since higher difficulty reduces both the damage I make and increases the damage I receive. Maybe there are some Oblivion experts here that can recommend a playstyle with a non-broken difficulty? So far my ideas are:

    • Increase the difficulty to expert, drop melee combat, play as pure mage with optimized spells, and lean into how broken magic seems to be in this game

    • just continue and hope the difficulty balances out later in the game (I don't know if this will happen though?)

    • start a new game in a different class without destruction magic (sucks cause I'd lose my progress)

I'd appreciate it if some Oblivion experts could give their thoughts. I had a ton of fun with this game before the difficulty broke and would love to continue.

    The wolf is loose

Ok, I guess this will be a niche meme and require some explanation. Recently there was this post where a guy rescued a kitten from the neighbor's dog: https://lemmy.today/post/29489052 Today I was listening to the album Blood Mountain by Mastodon about a hero encountering all kinds of dangerous creatures while lost in the mountains. And the lyrics reminded me of the kitten's dangerous journey into the neighbor's garden.

I wish there was a sloth month

Just a month to celebrate relaxation and not obsessing over the grind. Festivals where people just bring camping chairs and chill together. Companies pandering by giving paid extra time off to employees. And so on.
