  • I was born in Europe and it also annoys me that some people who immigrated around the same time as this lady, such as my family, now criticise and stereotype newer immigrants as if they've forgotten what their experience was like. It's like now we can be with the 'kool kids' and can bully someone else 🙄

  • From what I've heard WA has a pretty healthy hemp industry, despite the fact that our govts haven't been that supportive (perhaps that's different in WA). Hemp is an amazing plant useful in hundreds of applications and particularly useful in construction due to its fast growth and qualities for healthy home environments and carbon storage, e.g. this WA company: https://hemphomesaustralia.net.au/hemp-advantages/

  • UPDATE: Interview by George Galloway with Prof. Seyed Manrandi on what has happened since the 'ceasefire' was announced. We find out so little via our mainstream media. Only via podcasts and similar do we get to know more of what's really going on. We're in for hard times ahead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vztPqEuiJ1Y

  • This is a comment by the respected journalist Chris Hedges:

"It is highly unlikely, unfortunately, that the ceasefire agreement brokered by Pakistan will endure. This is due to two principal impediments.

First, Israel is adamantly opposed to a cessation of the bombing of Iran’s infrastructure. This bombing campaign is part of the Israeli effort to turn Iran into a failed state. Israel has the ability to sabotage the agreement. Indeed, Israel is already doing so by refusing to halt its attacks on Lebanon.

Secondly, the minimal demands being made by Iran remain unacceptable to the U.S. and Israel. The demands will only be achieved by creating more pressure, which Iran can generate by continuing to block oil and gas shipments through the Strait of Hormuz and targeting vital infrastructure in the region...

I don’t see Iran backing down on these demands, especially as it has the ability to force the U.S. through prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz to concede. This means more war and a strangulation of the global economy."

  • Perhaps there should be a campaign encouraging people to adopt the 'paseo' (Spanish) or 'passegiatta' (Italian). This tradition of taking an evening walk after dinner is pleasant, healthy and sociable and particularly nice in Summer or the daylight-saving months for those outside of Qld. Country towns and walkable cities where people can stroll and greet each other would be good for both mental as well as physical health.

  • Voronoi/Visual Capitalist does this and other types of graphs and diagrams about a diverse range of world issues and figures. Their more creative approach doesn't bother me at all. It is visually interesting but we all have different tastes.

  • The climate denial tactics are precisely what the non-conservative members of the Senate Committee pointed out and the Greens gave great recommendations to rein in misinformation. But it's like the status quo is about passivity and apathy. Meanwhile, our kids will deal with a terrible fallout.

  • Excellent article with great photography but the reality on the ground is horrific.

Environmental monitor Nusantara Atlas estimates that in the last 25 years, almost 4.5 million hectares of forest in Sumatra has been lost — a land area four times larger than Greater Melbourne. Many companies have been carrying out significant land clearing legally, with government permits, but large swathes of land have also been illegally cleared.

Just how much the government is doing/will do is questionable as the article conveys. Meanwhile, these rural communities suffer terribly. Greed coupled with climate heating creates more climate heating and we are jyust as guilty in Australia.

  • Seems to be a natural reaction, 'fight or flight' or stay or get away. Same happens here after catastrophic bush fires and floods. Some people want to stay and rebuild and others want to put the traumatic place far from themselves. Some of course have no choice.

  • Apparently, the seal totem can represent imagination, playfulness but also hard work. The act of sending a kite into the sky mirrors an attempt to reach for what lies beyond ordinary perception amongst other meanings. Sounds you've had a beautiful day.

  • OK, tongue in cheek but I noticed that the bins in the video were either open or overflowing with bags that can be pierced, not secured under a lid.

I wonder if one day they'll study the cast-iron digestive system of this species. We may learn something about survival. The way we're going at the moment and its repercussions we may learn to throw out less food and also eat and and smoke less poison and not play 'I've got a bigger nuke than yours'. In which case, survivors will be scavenging too and we'll be smelling like bin chickens.
