The world of Earthsea from Ursula K. LeGuin's books. Why?

the setting's philosophy is nearly Daoist in its focus on balance over domination;
although it started (deliberately) with a very patriarchal magic order, over time it was revealed that the "mere witches" the mages looked down upon held the roots of true magic and were instrumental in preserving the world;
said magic was based on "true names" meaning to hold power over anything at all you had to deeply and profoundly understand it, resulting in a world of scholars and poets and deep observers – a world, in short, of knowledge instead of warriors;
the world wasn't white, with the default skin colour being a reddish-brown, if memory serves;
being a world sort of on the cusp of iron and bronze age technology, but stable (c.f. further above on balance over domination), the world is mostly idyllically coded and the conflict comes mostly from within, instead of the usual fare of huge earth-shattering events that threaten all.

I've been doing all the usual grandma hobbies for a while now. You know, things like lifting heavy objects and putting them back down (weightlifting), carving chops, etc. I'm planning on expanding that into distilling my own liquor, but that's a lot of planning and study to get right (where "right" is defined as "doesn't make me go blind").

That hobby I started of carving signature chops is really good for erasing anything bugging me because I have to focus on the chisel cutting through rock to actually get the output I'm looking for.

Rock doesn't care about your feelings. Chisels don't care about your feelings. You need to set them aside to work.

So THAT is why posts seemed to go "missing" when I was using Tesseract! I switched back to the default look because Tesseract seemed to be having problems loading posts. Now I see it's because the Tesseract dev is a fascist.

I stopped doing anything work-related (yes, this included "mandatory" extracurricular activities like "team-building" back when that was all the craze) outside of working hours unless paid at the usual overtime rates: time and a half for overtime, double time for weekends, double time and a half for holidays. I started this ban in the early '90s and stuck to it until now.

If this "limited" my career somehow, well, if working for free and ruining my actual life is "limiting", I think I prefer being limited.

Personally I think we could stand to reduce that by an additional $100 billion or so. You know, pivot away from the USA to countries that aren't batshit insane.
