Oracle Java police start knocking on Fortune 200's doors for first time
  • So a lot of Java hate I think is mostly in jest.

Personally, Java was the programming language that I had to use for my first two years of college. It's how I learned OOP, data structures, and algorithms. I had to use Eclipse, which at the time was AWFUL (and maybe still is, no idea). I remember it being semi-normal for it to take over a minute to launch on my (gaming) PC.

Later on, as I learned other languages and got a job, I just haven't really had a reason to go back to Java, and most of my memories of it are from being annoyed at Eclipse and needing to implement Quicksort in it. I'm sure it's a great language and I bet it's a lot better and more convenient now. It's just kinda trendy and weirdly nostalgic to hate on it in a half-serious way :) .

  • Hidetaka Miyazaki 'knows for a fact' other FromSoftware devs want a Bloodborne PC port: 'If I say I want one, I'll get in trouble, but it's nothing I'm opposed to'
  • Sure, but Sony has shown that they're happy to release some of their exclusive on PC. The Horizon and God of War games both got decent PC ports.

A huge portion of Fromsoft fans are on PC. It would be a day one purchase for pretty much all of them. That's been the frustration.

  • Steam owner Valve accused of ripping off 14m UK gamers
  • Isn't the price matching requirement only when you're giving Steam keys as part of the purchase from the other store? If Steam is going to permanently host and distribute the games, it's only fair that the price on their store matches the other places you're selling keys

  • Jon Stewart's prediction about changing beauty standards from 2004
  • People aren't celebrating being obese. They're celebrating being themselves and accepting that they're more than their body. They're also saying that it's possible to be beautiful and desirable even if you're overweight.

Fat shaming doesn't work. People don't always try to improve themselves when they feel like they're worthless. Sometimes they do, and you'll always see some ex-fat person in the comments saying how they needed the shame to improve, but the data doesn't really support that position.

I just want people to be able to be happy. I want people to be treated like humans regardless of their looks and weight. That's the goal of most of these *movements."

Also... While some extra crazy people out exist that claim that it's healthy to never move and be over 300 pounds, those people are often cherry picked and used as examples of cultural downfall, even when they're the minority.

  • Java has a lot of advantages, but that's a crazy statement. I feel like literally everyone complains about basic stuff like public static void main, over reliance on factories and OOP, and just how much code you need to generate for some basic stuff. I'm not a Java hater, but I am glad I don't have to use it anymore.

  • Taskmaster (UK) Series 18 Cast
  • Ah, I read "last" as "previous" and I consider 17 the "current" series, not the last. I have enjoyed most of 17 though I agree it's a bit of a dip, but I do love Sophie and Nick. John gives me weird vibes, and I like Steve but he's also a bit understated. Joanne I go back and forth on but overall like her

  • Until Dawn - Gameplay Trailer | PS5 & PC Games
  • This was a great fun silly slasher story to play through with friends. It ran pretty badly on my PS4 at the time, so it would be fun to play it with a decent frame rate.

Pretty annoying that they're still requiring a PSN account though...

  • Taskmaster (UK) Series 18 Cast
  • Last series was one of my favorites. I guess Sam and Lucy's derangement isn't for everyone.

One thing that I find when I try to rewatch ALL of it from the start is that I usually also start to peeter out after series 7, but if I START there, I love the following series too. I think you can just get a bit burnt out on Taskmaster.

Also series 7 is just so incredible that it was a bit hard to follow.

  • Taskmaster (UK) Series 18 Cast
  • That's wild. I haven't loved this current (17) series as much as previous, but Sam and Lucy were absolutely incredible in that season too. I think that's an interesting thing about Taskmaster, everyone's favorites are different and people have wildly different preferences. The show covers a lot of comedic ground.

  • Do you ever feel like that sometimes ?
  • I have the complete opposite experience. Weed removes the guilt of not doing anything, but it usually leads to me doing nothing.

I enjoy weed occasionally because it turns off that hyper critical voice in my head, but it absolutely isn't a magic motivation medicine for most people.

After using pretty heavily last year and taking a break, I've realized that the overall effect is fairly negative, because it just makes me way too ok with doing nothing. Sometimes I need to do nothing and take a break, and it's great for helping me do that, but for me personally, it's a major negative when I'm doing it regularly.

Obviously your experience is different (as is everyone's a little) so feel free to try it, just keep in mind that it can get very easy to get addicted to that "mellow brain" feeling until you realize that all progress on all of your goals have stalled out because it's easy to just be high all afternoon and evening. There are lots of people who can be motivated and productive while high, but I think I've determined that I'm not one of them.
