My first personal writing project - Metal Gear Solid 3: A Personal Retrospective

What started as a random rental from a local video store became one of my most played and most recommended video game experiences.

What if employers could gauge the ‘moods’ of workers? A dangerous new tech gains ground in India
  • I worked at a restaurant part-time for some extra "fun" money before COVID. Once we went to take-out only during the pandemic, everything turned toxic and I was not happy with how the management were handling everything. They told us "be happy because you're basically making $20 an hour with how well everyone is tipping" but the morale was absolutely abysmal.

I was letting these teenagers know that they were getting poor treatment and management came to me and basically said "they look up to you, you can't tell them those things. They are all going to be mad", so I quit. They were mad at me for telling these teenagers that they don't have to devote their life to this restaurant that began making record profits during one of the worst and uncertain times for many of these kids families.

Basically what I'm getting at is, if they do ask the workers, they don't want to hear how they actually feel.

  • E3 2008 - Fallout 3 Trailer - Kbin /m/PCGaming Lookback
  • What a great trailer! I was only 14 when this game dropped, but this trailer convinced me that I needed to play it.

  • Season 11: Episode 1 Thoughts
  • Writing is definitely difficult! I couldn't do it. The voices were fine, I was just saying that it was pretty noticeable.

As for the legacy with new seasons/episodes and how I would write it.. well I don't think I would. It had a good run and I loved it. In my opinion, Futurama is just like King of the Hill, I'm not really sure it needs to come back because it already hit perfection many times.

  • Season 11: Episode 1 Thoughts
  • I think because the streaming services count the movies as their own season. I just went by what Hulu said the episode was!

  • Season 11: Episode 1 Thoughts
  • Ha, I submitted this too soon! The ending has some meta commentary.

  • Season 11: Episode 1 Thoughts

I'm actually writing this while watching.

I.. I don't know. It's not terrible, but I am not finding the first episode to be all that promising. It kind of just feels like the first reboot. I'm sure there will be some good episodes though!

One of the most noticable things for me is the sound of Billy West's characters. They all sound much lower now.

Also, my magazine name for this is now obsolete!

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

Zelda: Majora's Mask art director wanted to work on another 'weird Zelda'
  • Major's Mask made me hopeful that I would like TOTK. But it's too similar to BOTW in all the wrong ways. Just wasn't a fan of Botw for the most part. 😔

  • What are you reading this week? [7/02/23]
  • The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm maybe a quarter or a third of the way through it and I quite like it! It's been a slow-go mostly just because I'm not good at dedicating time to read. I recently got the audio book to make more progress while driving.

  • What are you reading this week? [7/02/23]
  • Loved the series as a whole! Books 7-9 might be my favorite of the 9!

  • Favorite Spaceships
  • Persepolis Rising (book 7 of The Expanse) the introduction of the Laconia magnetar-class ships were always really cool in my imagination, haha. They just seemed so powerful and impossible to take on.

  • Is there any way to be notified when others respond to your comments? I feel like it naturally extinguishes conversations to not have any notifications?
  • Everyone be patient. Kbin especially is in a very early phase. Imagine joining Reddit in it's first few months.

  • Futurama | Official Trailer | New Season July 24 | Hulu
  • I have no strong feelings one way or the other.

  • Playing MGS3 blind after finishing MGS4
  • @skele_tron any update on progress? I'm excited to hear your thoughts, haha.

  • Should the Fediverse welcome its new surveillance-capitalism overlords? Opinions differ!
  • I think it all comes down to why does Meta do anything? Money. And, the timing of their supposed interest in the Fediverse is after the second notable exodus from a major social network. Meta sees more people & more engagement here which equates to more potential profits on their end.

I looked into Mastodon after the whole Twitter thing in November, but I didn't really use Twitter, so an alternative at the time didn't make sense for me. However, I was an avid Reddit user for the last nine years, so when these API changes came to light and my app (Sync) was going to cease to exist, well I took the Fediverse alternatives more seriously and realized that ActivityPub is awesome technology that is now invaluable to the internet.

    I'm here to stay.

  • Majority of gamers play with subtitles turned on
  • I honestly am a huge Nolan fan but could not agree more with his audio lately. I was really frustrated in the theater during Dunkirk trying to figure out what the heck Tom Hardy was saying. Tenet, at times, was also pretty bad. I still really liked both movies, but they would have been better experiences if I could have not dedicated so many resources to hear a word in a garbled mess of voice.

  • "We're shocked that Joe Rogan would do this" - people who watched Joe Rogan do this to everyone else
  • I'm on Android and I use Apple Music. It's very good and well worth it. This is coming from someone who still despises Apple, but my partner used Apple Music and we got a family plan.

  • [Prime Gaming] Prey (GOG key) (Included With Prime)
  • I cannot recommend this game enough. It definitely not perfect--I had numerous complaints about its audio mixing--but the gameplay is so good. It does the System Shock/Bioshock formula extremely well. If you're going in for your first time, push yourself to experiment. The game is very good at letting you do things you maybe normally wouldn't think of.

    Gameplay spoilers!

For example: There are times where you are locked out of a room in need of a keycard or passcode that you need to come across. Sometimes this can be mitigated by a simple swing of your wrench can break the glass; many people will likely figure that out. Sometimes, that locked room has glass, but it has bars preventing you from entering after breaking the glass. This may lead those who use the typhon powers to transform into a small object and move between the bars to get inside. Now, what do you do if you don't have the keycard/passcode, or have psionic powers? Well, there's a "weapon" that you can use called the Huntress Boltcaster. It's a toy gun that shoots foam crossbow bolts. You can use this to shoot the button on the inside of the door to open it. Incredible.

  • Nintendo Direct June 21st is sparking rumors of Nintendo Switch 2
  • People have been saying that for years and yet Nintendo is performing quite well. The average consumer does not care about resolutions and framerates. If a Switch 2 does come out in the next couple of years, I would expect it to perform similarly to a PS4 Pro/Xbox One X with 1080p and 60fps as @ampersandrew had already mentioned.

  • Odd timing from Google
  • That's great news. kbin has been a great experience so far and it really has so much potential.

  • The fediverse isn't going to work if top pages consist of the same link 10x reposted.
  • I don't understand this specific complaint.

If you are subscribed to similar communities that exist on different servers/instances, then the likelihood of someone from each community posting the link is pretty high (especially if it is big news). If you are subscribed to 5/5 gaming communities that exist across lemmy, kbin, beehaw, and others, then yes, you are going to see similar content each time. I don't see how this is a problem because it seems to be working as intended.

If you're wanting to be subscribed to each because of the opportunity to engage in the comments with others, then just ignore the repeated content. Coming from Reddit, it was common to see the same post on gaming, pcgaming, & pcmasterrace. There's always going to be overlap.

  • What episode never fails to make you laugh?

For me, I love going back to the Season 2 opener. It starts out strong with no one, not even Fry, recognizing the name Titanic. It's got robot software humor, Zapp, a parody of a famous movie, and so much more.

    Good news everyone!

I have zero experience moderating communities on reddit-like websites. My incompetence knows no bounds, why, I don't even know how to select a good moderator.

    Anyway, any volunteers?

www.space.com Futurama reboot on Hulu: Release window, cast, where to watch, & more

The Futurama reboot on Hulu isn't far away and here's everything we know about it from release date, cast, how to watch and more.

I'm cautious of this new reboot. Seasons 1-5 are some of my favorite episodes of TV.

How or what are you all feeling about it?
