I.. I don't know. It's not terrible, but I am not finding the first episode to be all that promising. It kind of just feels like the first reboot. I'm sure there will be some good episodes though!
One of the most noticable things for me is the sound of Billy West's characters. They all sound much lower now.
Just watched it - it was… ok. I think it’s important to remember that not all episodes have been winners, there were a lot of other episodes that have also been “ok”, too. I had a couple of chuckles, and after the wretched day I had, that was enough for today.
I hope they got some of the “topical” stuff out of their system, I think it’ll get old if every new episode is a non-ending cavalcade of winks to real-world issues. I know they have more coming, I just hope it’s not a substitute for telling good stories.
I do agree that some of the voice-acting sounded kind of off, but the one I noticed most was (mild spoiler ahead) the robot devil.
The episode was fine to me. Writing is hard, I don't expect everything to be 'best of' material. I thought the meta was fine, the show is about being a corporate business run by a mad scientist who doesn't care about his employees... yet always comes back to them. Fry getting out of the suit was decent, fit with the Calculon style melodrama. With such a legacy, it's like new seasons of The Simpsons, how would you write it?
I thought the voices were fine. Marge SImpson, Julie Kavner, her voice has changed a lot since the start as voice actors I follow for a long time go... and I always notice the change in her voice... but it just seems real to me... I'm over age 50, and I know people whose voice has changed a lot from age 30 to 50.
Writing is definitely difficult! I couldn't do it. The voices were fine, I was just saying that it was pretty noticeable.
As for the legacy with new seasons/episodes and how I would write it.. well I don't think I would. It had a good run and I loved it. In my opinion, Futurama is just like King of the Hill, I'm not really sure it needs to come back because it already hit perfection many times.
I definitely noticed Billy Crystal's voice being raspier/aged but it's not anything that makes a difference.
They did a great job, so what if they made similar jokes regarding being rebooted, it's a reboot? Even moreso, it's meta given that it's a reboot of a reboot in the reboot of time! Lol my own terrible joke aside, they did a good job solely because they were able to answer the question of "how do we make the ending of the last season work". Duh, time broke!
The whole plot was a not-so-veiled attempt at getting everyone to binge Futurama again, right? Anyhow yes there were a few good laughs and I liked that Bender said the classic line. Curious to see where relationship between Fry and Leela goes
