Something I noticed about engine builders I have tried in recent years is that they do not let you build a blatantly overpowered engine. Sure, that leads to a runaway leader, but it is the social contract of playing an engine building game. It would be like 4X games that punish you for fighting opponents (another complaint of mine is that all the new 4X games I have tried strongly discourage you from destroying opponents infrastructure…)

It could be sampling bias since I am not following all the new releases and I am not trying many games.

You mean the fact that ICE parodied Pokemon cards? I imagine it would fall under "fair use". Plus, a lawsuit is only useful if a court enforces it. A judge is not going to be awarding massive damages against a government agency over a joke

It seems like Massachusetts Best Buys did not get the memo. I hear all these stories about people hating Best Buy over pushy employees and have the opposite experience. The stores only have 1-2 employees on the floor and the duty of those employees seems to be to hide from customers. If I ever need help finding an item or want something from a locked display, I have to spend 15-20 minutes running around the store trying to catch a ninja.

Wasn't that the Pocket Pair game before Palworld?

Perhaps they want the extra system resources to have a larger and more dynamic world?

Sorry, I don't watch many Bucks games, so I am wondering: is Thanasis actually capable of playing at an NBA level or is he just there for Giannis to get a better than max contract? 1 point, .5 points, .5 assists in 5 minutes is not that impressive.

With the exception of the moment you sell it, owning a professional sports team is a giant money sink. The obscenely rich do it for the attention and to rub it in the faces of all their friends. No matter how rich you are, you cannot own an NBA team unless an existing owner wants to sell or unless you pay off the existing owners to allow an expansion team.

Both attention and bragging rights increase the more a team wins. No owner wants to be in a position where they paid a lot to buy a team, have to pay a lot in team payroll, but still lose. If an owner is already heavily invested in a team and sees an opportunity to invest a little bit more for a lot more success, it makes sense to take it.

And did they get any interesting results from the analyzer?

Both the ongoing strong sales and good availability suggest that Nintendo was prepared this generation and had plenty of consoles in warehouses prior to launch.

Judging by the little burb, this was a device that allows the player to control the d-pad by shifting their weight from one butt cheek to the other? Cool, I guess but I don't understand why that is more immersive.

To me, he just comes off as gullible and not very smart. He looked at the argument for a flat Earth and argument for a round Earth, could not catch that one side was using very faulty reasoning, and went with the side that had the better looking presentation.

Does he ever speak out on any of the issues he is clueless about? The only thing I remember him being vocal about (other than basketball) is civil rights, based on his lived experience.

So a Switch 2 game where you walk around the real world and catch Pokemon? I see a bunch of issues with it:

• The S2 does not have mobile Internet, so they would need to preload maps of the entire world and put out constant game patches to keep them current. Any multiplayer content will only be playable when the player is home (or by a Wi-Fi hotspot).
• The S2 does not have GPS. Would they track location by polling the joycon accelerometer every second and moving the player character 2 inches down the street? You would be to start every play session from a known location and keep the S2 running for the entire play session. Also, the longer you play, the more the errors in your location will add up.
• The S2 does not have a rear camera, so you cannot do AR, only a fantasy background.

Pokemon Go or Pokemon Let's Go? I would love a new Let's Go. I would also love the old games to be released on Switch Online (or stand alone) with full Pokemon Home integration.

The owner now has a professional team in the South East and one in the North West. Presumably, he will want both teams in the same city. Moving the Blazers moving to North Carolina or the Hurricanes to Oregon seems like a lot of effort. If he is going through that effort, might as well move both teams to the biggest media market he can. So, presumably Vegas is getting a basketball team and a second hockey team?

When I (rarely) browse without an ad blocker, I notice how much better contextual ads (ads based on the site I am looking at) are compared to personalized ads. For example, on Board Game Geek shows ads for board games, board game accessories, and board game storage solutions. On webcomics I will see an ad for another webcomic that targets a similar audience. Both types of ads are genuinely interesting to me and I click on them on occasion.

When I see "personalized" ads, they are for things I have absolutely no interest in. On a tech news site, I get an ad for hair conditioner (I have short hair and losing it). On a 3d printing site, I am sold t-shirts with pro-police slogans (the fact that I regularly visit lemmy should automatically mark me as a bad target for the product).

No, since I would expect Indie World would be an even bigger disappointment in that case. If the big third party developers did not present anything that excited you, what are the odds that a game made by a small, underfunded team will?

I am guessing this is the overflow from the third party direct. They sent out word for developers to send them trailers for upcoming games and got more responses than they wanted. The big name studios were put in the main show and this showcase is the trailers that were edited out for time.
