Moderate conservatives be like
  • From my experience they beliece that a vote cast comes with a bunch of subtext that the people who now have the power will actually care about. So they are ok with gay people and the homophobe they just voted in better be careful!

  • After First Round of Voting, Will France's Centrists Drop Out to Stop the Fascists?
  • Ok so if they seem to be third place in whatever area they’ll leave so as to avoid vote splitting allowing a party with less than half the votes to get a full seat of power. The centrists have been a little more vague(on brand) but seem to get the idea and might do the same.

If it actually works then the country would likely be left with a center or left minority government and enough total seats under control of center and/or left that a coalition could keep the fascists from doing too much damage.

As a fan of minority governments that can’t just bulldoze stuff I’m down, but it’s a dangerous game. Centrists aren’t known for follow-through on tough choices.

  • My disdain for mega banks knowns no end
  • Hey dipshit, it’s called taxes and public services. That money can go into paying for free healthcare and education, the IRS to make sure all the other parasites pay their due(every dollar put into that organization leads to a positive return), and a host of other things that end up providing a huge gain for people. None of that is to mention that of the 86mil customers there are many who don’t need the extra money so we can push more down to the poorer of the bunch.

You’re very confident for someone who’s thought about this so little and has no real idea how any of it works. Your own math fails miserably when you acknowledge that that CEO is not the only rich person and a proper redistribution of wealth even in the way you mentioned would mean thousands of dollars a month for everyone.

  • Moderate conservatives be like
  • Hell, even in FPTP in countries like Canada with a third, equally viable party not voting for what you want is a bit of a waste. If you don’t show your support then the next election has the chance to go even deeper into the fake two-party system.

It’s your voice. In many ways it’s your only voice and there is no nuance so you must be clear.

  • The Boeing saga has reached a new level of absurdity | CNN Business
  • I kinda get it. Boeing may just be trying to improve their image but they’re doing it during an active investigation. Considering just how little they’ve cared in the past this may an attempt to garner sympathy from the public before everything is done.

  • Trickle down rule
  • “But doesn’t this cost more and take up more space than just putting them side by side and not having the stairs? And the stairs are even dangerous for the person on top!”

“Ah, see you’re not thinking about how fun it is to shit on other people.”

    “…”

  • Puerto Rico power company suspends $65M worth of maintenance projects, sparking outcry amid outages
  • Conservatives like to act like if no one wants to operate in a place there would be a company takind advantage of that niche. Instead, they show up and when they realize they can’t make as much there they ship all that money out to more profitable areas like we see here.

And the most hit areas by this are rural conservative ones. Not sure how to get them to figure this shit out.

  • We need to talk about your starving grandchildren | Just Have a Think
  • My dad will help literally anyone who asks him directly or is even just the friend of a person he knows. He’ll just hand them things he owns or set aside time or just give them free whatever. When he was a manager of a team for a time he was super progressive about it telling his team to take care of themselves while still overworking himself so it’s not like he’s a default “fuck corporate” guy or anything.

Ask him to pay taxes, though, and he suddenly goes full conservative. Tell him it’s hard for servers and he’ll say they should get a better job. Mention arts degrees and he’ll say that’s why education shouldn’t be free. It’s the weirdest fuckin’ thing.

  • Welcome to Hell!
  • The good people would probably either not want to waste their time hurting people or they would get tired of it very quickly(we ain’t all perfect). Like if Trump died I’d be elated but it’s because he would no longer be poisoning the world with his presence and not because I personally want to beat his face in for eternity.

To be honest I think the hell I would want for these people would be a forced injection of critical thinking skills and empathy, with mandatory classes on all of the harm they did, so they could ultimately be their own punishment. At that point the most participation I would want would be my turn explaining how they people hurt me and the people I care about.

  • I'm a Tenured College Professor. I'm Quitting. Here's Why.
  • These worthless people will do literally anything but pay the people doing the work enough to live. They seem to forget, though, that they are nothing without people and with the internet being a thing we all know about each other’s struggles. They can’t fire you and just wait for your coworkers to forget you existed.

It’s getting better but oh boy is going to get much, much worse in the short term.

  • Why Democrats think Biden’s problem is Biden
  • I remember, and maybe I misunderstood, when he was up against Biden last time and the biggest issue he had was that Elizabeth Warren’s similar message split votes. She was clearly losing but for some reason stayed in and siphoned votes away from him just long enough for him to back out.

More people wanted either Sanders or Warren than wanted Biden but ya’ll ended up with Biden. We have the same problem here in Canada where more vastly more people hate the Conservatives than support them and yet that party always ends up dangerously close to gaining power.

  • YOU GUYS NEED TO ANTICIPATE ME!
  • It’s been a long time sinxe I watched 30 Rock but I remember someone once saying that Kenneth is actually a friendly(hopefully) Eldritch horror and it tracks. I truly believe that that was pizza in there before the box was opened.

  • RFK Jr. won’t meet CNN debate requirement for ballot access
  • That’s really the kind of organizational skillset that’ll get things done. /s

Even with their fear-mongering and everything I will never understand why the right keeps electing the kind of people who refuse to show any level of qualification. Like ok, you hate taxes and think that corporations should have the right to poison your waterways, but why are you electing the blatant liars and fraudsters who can’t even seem to put their pants on the right way ‘round? At least go for someone who seems to have some level of skill.

Oh, right, people with skill are less and less likely to actually ascribe to those broken ideologies. Maybe that should be a sign.

  • 80% of Americans say grocery costs have notably increased since the pandemic started, survey finds
  • Old people getting mad about shit they don’t understand, a classic.

My dad blames our Prime Minister for inflation as if it’s not a global crisis and as if Canada isn’t among the top ten countries in the world when it comes to mitigating the effects of inflation.

Does your dad have hobbies or anything? I find the ones most ready to start making shit up seem to be the ones who just work until they go home and then do basically nothing once they get there. Such little interaction with the rest of the world isn’t healthy.

  • Fake job ads waste applicants' time and harm their wellbeing. So why are companies posting them?
  • I’m sorry, bud, that sounds awful.

I’m in the middle of my third month unemployed now. Sent out a bunch of applications and had some HR interviews but man, no one wants to pay even what I was previously making let along anything liveable.

One place was a referral and they liked me a lot but, only slightly paraphrased, “didn’t want to start our partnership on the wrong foot by offering too low a salary”. Like bro you’ve already insulted me just give me the fucking offer and let me decide. Another place got to the second interview and it all went great and then I was ghosted and no one answered my follow-up email.

Every job I see wants me to work on-site 2hrs away from the city in some small town for pennies. And that’s only if I’m lucky enough to see the salary! The rest hide them so people who are more desperate than I am low-ball themselves in order to not scare away potential jobs. It’s so completely fucked up.

Not a single damn company will even acknowledge that inflation is real so I cannot afford to take lower pay just to watch it get worse every single year. The answer to every single one of our fucking problems all the way down to toxic masculinity I feel can definitely or at least probably be answered by PAYING EMPLOYEES PROPERLY SO THEY AREN’T CONSTANTLY IN FIGHT MODE. I see things like “how to increase the productivity of your workforce!” and just think pay them and give them the basic respect they deserve as living, breathing human beings and they’ll happily do a lot for you.

Companies are entitled. They clearly can’t afford to exist if they can’t pay their employees but instead of shutting down with grace they tell us it’s our fault. It’s fucking insane.
