Is it possible for a Linux system to notify you if a RAID drive fails?
  • ZFS also directly addresses this issue in that a scrub can be setup in cron, which will detect any data issues and send email. One could do that with smartctl too, but that can be too late, where a ZFS scrub is more likely to let you know of issues before data loss.

  • Me too, but until they do it just makes this Lemmy instance - and Lemmy in general - look bad. I do hope they succeed, but I'm not sure the owners of Lemmy instances understand what's at stake, or what it takes to run a production level service.

  • new build, rock filled yard.
  • A rototiller was my first thought as well. Picking up the rocks will just require manual labor, but a tiller should do a good job of breaking up the clumps, though the soil might need to be amended with some other dirt/soil tilled in.

  • 3D printed window blind valance clips

While refinishing wood windows I needed to replace some valance clips - some were missing completely, others I broke while removing or reinstalling the valance. 3D printer to the rescue!

There are a couple clip designs on printables.com, it's great being able to manufacture my own replacement parts!

Excited by the “fediverse” but wondering about the future
  • Definitely. As much as a centralized /c namespace is against all the principles of a decentralized system, lack of a centralized namespace results in topical duplication and hinders discovery. I don't know how, but seems to me some sort of happy medium has to fall out.

  • Scrolling feels slow
  • Yep, I had the same problem - see my previous post on lagginess in this /c. Force closing and clearing app cache resolved it for me.

Everyone keeps confusing this with a server load issue, which it isn't (or at least doesn't seem to be directly).

  • Jerboa super laggy suddenly (0.0.33)

For some reason, I'm finding Jerboa to be extremely laggy today when scrolling around or doing pretty much anything. Yesterday it wasn't like this at all, doesn't look like I've gotten an update. Not sure what changed. Force closing Jerboa didn't help.

Just curious if anyone else has experienced this.

EDIT: I don't believe this is a server load issue - it appears to be app itself, although I guess scrolling around could be blocked on async server calls. After force closing and clearing app cache it's a bit better.

    More chicken on the grill

Drumsticks with a light Cajun rub on the pellet pit.

Also posted to /c/bbq where "More" in the title will make sense. Posted here because it's empty. :-)
