  • I believe the problem is more in the software than the hardware. Linux just isn't great in this regard yet.

  • Fedora KDE on the framwork laptop. Not the only one here it seems. My pc still runs Windows 10 but I'll change that once I have the time.

Fedora is cool because it is about as user friendly to beginners as Ubuntu, without Canonicals shenanigans. It's a freedom respecting community project and always pretty up to date. I like the quick release cycle. It seems like a good balance between a rolling release and slow fixed releases. Upgrading to the next version takes no effort. And KDE is just cool for it's customizability.

  • That's the joke right? It's just poking some fun at Linux users for feeling superior, I see no harm in it.

  • Cool, I'm on the same laptop, same distro and same spin. I really like it, but I wish batterylife was better on Linux in general and that hibernation wasn't such a pain to setup.

  • If you want Microsoft to get fucked, you'll also have to remove the telemetry (or leave Windows).

  • Yes, and unlike 99% of my peers I care as much about the wellbeing of a pig as that of a dog. To me it's just indefensible to help an industry do immoral things to pigs that not a single one of us would condone if done to dogs.

Unlike OP I'm not just interested in wellbeing though, but also animal rights. So I would still oppose painless slaughter for example.

One reason is that again, most of us take issue with the painless killing of a young healthy dog. Imagine someone who has their dog painlessly killed every time they go on a holiday, and then buy a new one afterwards. Is that fine? I don't think so.

  • Its not a duty, the vet can always say no to a client, he is not required to kill or heal, its his choice.

I'm a vet student in the Netherlands, and here vets have a legal obligation to treat an animal in need. That being said, the interpretation of this law is quite lackluster. For example, farm animals are way more likely to get euthanized not because treatment is impossible, but because making money off of the animal is impossible. A farmer won't spend more money on an animal that has become economically unviable and the vets are happy to comply.

In fact, and that's my main point, they effectively have to comply. Sure, vets can refuse to do something they think is immoral. But if you have a vegan moral system, you simple can't be a vet (at least not one for farm animals). You can't provide the services the customers ask for.

I partly agree with jerkface@lemmy.ca that vets don't care about animal wellbeing. They care selectively about some animals. They only care about preventing suffering they think is unnecessary, and that is where the problem lies. Because way less is necessary than non-vegans think, since animal agriculture does not need to be profitable because it does not need to exist.

  • They at least suspended an account that crossposted a Lemmy migration post in many 3rd party app subs for a couple of hours for spamming. Seems like you could reasonably argue it was spamming though.

  • I agree that the signing up process should be streamlined and bugs should be fixed. But I don't agree we should maximize the userbase even if we need to weed out a lot of nasty people and bots later. That would make the platform more unpleasant instead of better.

I think the critical mass has already been reached. Not to be an exact copy of Reddit with all its tiny subs, but to be a nice place in its own right.

To combat the splintering problem I think there should be an option to combine similar communities of different instances. You would still have to choose an instance when posting, but when reading you wouldn't.

  • I think accidents and risks are different. We wouldn't kill a person to safe 4 people with organ failure.

  • He then swapped to saying he wanted it for the box and art

I would guess that was after he found out the disc doesn't run on a modern PC.

  • Yeah, like a bear with balance

  • Cool! Seems to be a bit like RetroPi exept for the Steamdeck

  • That's why I like GOG. No DRM bullshit and they actually put in some effort to make old games run on modern hardware.

When it comes to console games, emulation is the only way to go most of the time. If only they would just let you buy ROMs legally for a fair price. Instead Nintendo likes to give you a sub par experience and only if you subscribe to their service. No way to purchase old games. Not that you ever really owned the eShop games you bought, but at least it was not tied to a bloody subscription service.

  • Isn't there a Retroarch core for Doliphin? And Retroarch is on Steam. Maybe the Dolphin core is not available on the Steam version though.

Anyway, thankfully if you are tech savvy enough to get Dolphin to work, you are more than likely also capable of side loading it on the Steamdeck.

  • Here is their donation page with all three currently supported options.

I don't know much about Open Collective, but LiberaPay does not take a cut (only the fees of the payment processors) so I would discourage you to choose Patreon.

Edit: Actually there are more options listed since you can also donate crypto.

  • Yet breeders should be absolutely illegal.

I agree. Even individual pet owners (or guardians) breeding with their pet is problematic imo. Certainly when they choose the breeding partners.

But even if the dogs are free to choose themselves you could argue that you shouldn't let them breed because it would be better to adopt animals in need rather than create new animals.

  • Me too, although I think adoption can be okay

  • I'd say it's unethical to breed them, but not to adopt them if that's in their best interest.
