What Are You Playing This Weekend? (July 15th)
  • Making some serious progress in Tears of the Kingdom and finishing up Final Fantasy XVI.

Trying to get things squared away, Remnant 2 come out soon and I'm excited about that.

  • TOTK - Should I update Yuzu and mods to latest?
  • Make a backup, but yes. The new DynamicFPS mod from Chucksfeedandseed is a game changer, allows resolution to be scaled natively as opposed to using the Yuzu scaler. Way, way better image quality and fixes issues like the Sky Islands being weird.

Capcom is ‘considering how to approach’ making new Mega Man games
  • Would love to see more X style games personally, but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Capcom take a big risk and try to modernize the franchise too. Was always intrigued by the Maverick Hunter gameplay footage personally although I know it's somewhat polarizing.

Honestly, at this point anything that ins't a mobile cash grab game would be fun to dream on at least!

  • What are we all playing this weekend?
  • Hopefully finishing Final Fantasy XVI. Mixing in some TOTK too, fell off that one a bit because I degen'd my way to 100 in Diablo 4. Getting back into it has been really fun.

  • Ubisoft’s XIM detection sees “major reduction” in Rainbow Six Siege cheaters
  • I sincerely hope this works as well as this article says it does and Ubi shares the technology with other games. XIM(Cronus stuff even more so honestly someone figure that one out plz) is a plague on a few games I play.

Is there a computer game, or a specific moment, a fight etc that you wish you could do fresh with no prior memory of it?
  • Ornstein and Smough on the 1.0 version of Dark Souls in 2011 when I was very bad at Dark Souls and video games in general. In the DLC Hawkeye Gough has some line about how hunting the dragons teased out his dearest emotions and that's truly how I felt about my O&S experience. They kicked the ever loving shit out of me so many times. I remember finally scoring the kill in spite of the controller nearly falling out of my hands due to sweat at like 4 AM. Reacted a bit too loud, woke up my girlfriend (now wife haha). Just one of those moments that I will always remember.

Besides that, mostly all the Destiny raids haha. The Day 1 raiding experience in Destiny is just such a unique and awesome thing. Nothing quite like problem solving with a group of friends. Deep Stone Crypt is probably the most memorable of such experienced to me, first time the group I play with tried a Day 1 raid and completing it just gave me such a crazy high.

  • I've played Lies of P Demo recently, and it's quite fun and somehow it feels like a Bloodborne inspired game. Everyone is saying that too. Did anyone here play it too?
  • It's quite good. Definitely referential, but it has enough wiggle with some of the thematic stuff that it can get away with it. Will be cool to see where the stuff with "feeling springs reacting" leads to.

Gameplay felt more than serviceable but not quite on the level of a From Software title in the slice we played. More than good enough though. Excited for the full release.

  • Favourite Game of 2023 so far?
  • Tons of great ones this year

Resident Evil 4 Remake was a real highlight for me, just a stellar way to revisit what I consider to be one of the best games of all time.

Haven't finished it, but Tears of the Kingdom seems like it's on its way to be a historically significant game and deserves the praise.

Jedi Survivor is a favorite for me. Really good review scores, but it ticks a lot of the right boxes for my personal taste and elevates it even higher. Technical issues aside, thought it was a far better game than Fallen Order.

Diablo 4 is also a lot of fun but I'm undecided as to how I feel about the endgame. As a campaign experience right up there though.

....soo much to play right now haha.

Redfall developer Arkane currently safe, Microsoft says

Good to hear. Arcane has made some stellar titles over the years. It would be incredibly reactionary to shutter the studio for Redfall.

Reddit threatens replacing moderators from privated subreddits, citing vandalism and squatting.
  • They seem entirely content with burning it down and seeing what they're left with after. Not even pretending to play nice anymore.

  • Atlas Fallen - Gameplay Overview Trailer
  • Yeah even as someone who loves those types of games it's definitely a thing that's beginning to impose itself on the space a bit too much at this point. This looks fresh compared to how most third person RPGs are these days.

  • Gaming @kbin.social Errant @kbin.social

Feels like this have is a little bit slept on. Looks promising! Decent pedigree from the devs having done the first Lords of the Fallen and The Surge series.

Looks to be moving away from the Soulslike direction their recent titles have taken and more towards a more conventional action RPG. Movement looks cool!

What retro games should everyone play?
  • Super Metroid and Chrono Trigger are the first two I think of personally. Just historically great games with legacies that are still felt today.

  • An Extended Look at Armored Core 6
  • This is shaping up so well by the looks of it. The pace of play looks exactly what I would want out of a modern mech game. Very excited about this one. From Software does not miss.

Xbox Games Showcase + Starfield Direct reaction thread

Thread to discuss/react to the Xbox Games Showcase!

The showcase starts at 10 AM Pacific / 12 PM Central / 1 PM Eastern / 5:00 PM GMT / 6:00 PM CET

Should be exciting! Rumors of Fable and Avowed and should feature a long look at Starfield.

Xbox Games Showcase & Starfield Direct - Info & Reaction Thread
  • Really hoping for Fable! Soft spot for that series and it's been too long.

  • Any bold predictions ahead of Microsoft's showcase tomorrow?
  • Redfall 2 announcement ;^)

Tough to say though. Definitely has the potential to be the biggest one of these events over the past little bit as you have to figure Microsoft is in swing for the fences mode. If they have anything, now is the time to show it and push it hard. Would be nice to see something about Fable but that's been kind of rumored/expected. There's a lot of stuff that could be cooking in all those studios that they own, anything could happen.

What has everyone been playing lately?
  • dude it's shocking to me Final Fantasy XVI releases so soon. Don't know why, but that one really snuck up on me. Absolutely right, we're inundated with good stuff to play right now. Great problem to have.

  • What has everyone been playing lately?
  • I have friends who play a loooot of Deep Rock. I've played a few times and the gameplay is super fun but it hasn't hooked me the same way yet for whatever reason. Cool to hear it can click for people a bit later too!

  • What has everyone been playing lately?
  • Super reasonable about the Koroks. Especially the ones that refuse to move on their own with the bags. Special kind of hatred for those dudes.

Plan on getting back to TotK myself when the Diablo binge is over. Near 100% Breath of the Wild and what I played of Tears is just next level strong.

  • What has everyone been playing lately?
  • That's on my list to try one day. Have a buddy who recently started playing and it seems to be all he plays now haha. I've seen some of the intense setups people have for that game and other space sims and I'm always super impressed by them.

  • What has everyone been playing lately?
  • Agree with both of you dudes, both Spider-Man games were a blast. Just a super polished game. Pretty much everything you would want out of that IP. Trailer for the new game looks super promising as well, didn't expect to see Kraven as a big bad but the angle they're taking with it looks super neat.

What has everyone been playing lately?

What's everyone on /m/gaming playing lately?

I'm still making my way through the Diablo IV campaign, really enjoying that but looking forward to blasting and figuring out if I enjoy the endgame more than anything at this point. I'm a binge Path of Exile player but the past few leagues haven't really done it for me. It's been nice to play an ARPG again and I'm enjoying D4's slower pace. Zoom zoom is great in POE, but it's nice to get back to basics a little bit.

Went with Whirlwind Barbarian. Know it's meta, but Cyclone Slayer is my favorite POE build so I'm just trying to enjoy my time as the overpowered class rather than fighting it haha.

Played through the Lies of P demo as well and thought it was mostly great. Not the greatest example of gameplay for the genre IMO, but the production values and the vibe were stellar.

    How about you guys?

www.gamespot.com Persona 3 Reload And Persona 5 Tactica Leaked, Launching On Xbox Game Pass

Two Persona games, the remake of Persona 3 and a Persona 5 strategy game, have leaked ahead of the Xbox Games Showcase.

Little ahead of schedule on this one haha.

Trailer for P3 Reload is in the article and https://streamable.com/ta66ul if you would like to watch it early.

Looks cool! Appears to be the same engine/style as Persona 5. Should breathe new life into a classic game.
