  • Thanks this was a crosspost so I updated the title to proper and moved the old one to the body

  • I just view it as a pointless 50 year old squabble, it's current name is SQL to me so S-Q-L it is, ig I didn't have "old timers" to corrupt me during the formative years of my career though so maybe that's why.

Regardless, my real beef in this is if someone makes hiring/firing/promotion decisions based on that. Like a fun office debate about it, cool, it's whatever. Choosing not to hire or promote someone over something so petty is asinine IMO

  • It isn't pronounceable as a word, it is an initialism because the letters that compromise it do not allow it to be pronounced as a word. Unlike something like NASA which is a full blown acronym because it can be pronounced

Do you say hetips for HTTPS?

The sequel thing didn't even start naturally, it picked up this sequel moniker because of some ancient trademark beef in the 70s between the original devs when it was named "Sequel" and some company (That isn't even in business anymore)

They renamed it SQL and out of protest against the company people continued to call it sequel even though it makes no sense and 50 damn years later here we are. Everybody involved with direct involvement is probably dead or longggg since retired. It wasn't termed because it was easier to say and it sure as hell wasn't termed because its proper.

If it was originally called SQL and the above never happened, I guarantee it would just be another DNS or HTTP and many many pointless debates about it would have never happened

Disclaimer, this doesn't apply to the MS product that is called sequel

  • forget PostgreSQL’s existence until data corruption.

Oh, so about 2 hours then LMAO

  • Fuck, the wasp propaganda has infiltrated the Threadiverse!

  • Yup, and it's S-Q-L not sequel (🤢)

  • Yea, but I did have to petition for it and it took over a week for them to make the decision

You can petition for abandoned comms at !support@lemmy.world most of the time it's much faster than a week, it was only that long because of this one's... controversial...nature lol

  • Juul devices are re-usable but the pods aren't which still create a ton of plastic waste.

Juuls/pod systems/"disposable" ones are, but there are plenty of options that are fully rebuild-able. RTA/RDA on a classic mod for example.

Idk why so many abandoned the classic mods, they are so much cooler, I had one with Bluetooth and LEDs back in the day LMAO.

Ig that "just works" aspect of the pods was as addictive as the nicotine :/

  • Oh hey now there's an idea! I could probably 3d print a little cover too!

Thanks! If there was such a thing as gold on Lemmy I'd give you some, but there's not so you'll have to settle for this 🥇

And to think, MS could have done the same damn thing

  • I mean I got 6 of em for free, and ya can't beat free LMAO

I actually had been putting off cracking one open for awhile now but the SSDs in them had been failing one by one and I'm on the last one now lolol

  • Took a look at the ifixit for the steam deck OLED, honestly it doesn't look bad at all. I've removed lots of screens from phones and other tablets and such, and this looks no worse than those.

But man, MS really went out of their way to make the screen impossible to remove without cracking it on this one. There's a ridiculous amount of adhesive and coupled with the glass being really really thin... 😅 Yea it's a shit show when even the ifixit team can't even get some photos for their teardown without a shattered screen lol

  • Me not paying attention and pushing the wrong comm 😅

  • Vance has the cult personality of a wet blanket, plus cults very very rarely survive the death of its founder. It usually takes the person "next in the chain" to be able to match the founder's energy/charisma. Which almost never happens because that would be a "personality conflict"

  • That's actually a really neat window lol, I kinda want one now xD

But are you sure it doesn't open? Maybe you need to hold a crystal to it at the right time of day so that sunlight gets focused by it and opens a secret portal to another better timeline!

  • Lol I'll go wherever the flow is going, though iirc the MAU deficit was more than half between the 2, so that might be an uphill battle

But yea, if you feel this is the best move, I'll redirect

Though, I will say, I find this beef with AI-gen'd stuff rather silly, people should shit on proprietary profit-driven AI companies and support open source AI

  • If you put an average person in here with a minimal idea of what 4chan is, what would they say this place is like?

When they inevitably get scared off because some .ml users were going off ranting about how such such article about NK that got posted was actually western propaganda and that "NK is all good actually", what do you think they'll tell others?

This isnt about me or you, we have thick skin and can deal with the BS toxicity and have even become desensitized to it so it doesn't seem that bad

But we are not the average person and if we want the Threadiverse to succeed and maybe even threaten Reddit a bit, we need the normal users

  • But is that from a "normie" perspective or from a regular Threadiverse user perspective? Because from a regular Threadiverse user perspective many have become desensitized I feel, and that's also another aspect of the problem.

Because ptz has been operating on tamping down toxicity with the goal of it being attractive to the average user.

The Threadiverse will not actually achieve much without the "normies"
