  • Oh my poor sweet summer child, any town over 2k pop and every highway already has cameras whether you notice or not. You're not getting in or around anything of use if you're avoiding those. I'm in a town with less than 6k in a rural area, can't go to the gas station without passing 3.

  • I've found the Lowe's site/app is even worse, you can sort by cost but it will "categorize" them so it shows the more expensive items first then lists the next set in cost order. I would rather just not have the option.

  • Ok, now I'm wondering how common this is. I've ran into this a few times at my local gas station the past month and when I asked about it they said it's been doing it a bunch lately. Would be interesting if we find out there's some sort of malware attack on gas station pumps, would be an easy way to shut down an area remotely to cause panic.

  • I guess it's perspective, a 10% increase seems like a mighty fine improvement to me especially when you're on the precipice of a bottleneck on older equipment.

Honestly it's a few factors including the price, for example:

that's almost a 20% price increase for an upgrade which might not be compatible and downgraded speed wise. As I stated before it's also just a knowledge lesson as well in knowing all the components and compatibility which I'm interested in.

  • I'm actually in a state of confusion over the fediverse, reddit, and social media as a whole atm. I loved switching over to Lemmy because of the foss/decentralizing and lower user count at first. If I see a thread with 1500 comments I'm less likely to interact with it, like trying to hold a meaningful conversation at a concert event.

Forums and articles are slowing becoming harder to find for information without going through 6 AI pages repeating the same paragraph in 20 different ways without really telling you anything new, so that's slowly becoming more of a burden. Reddit is so inundated with mainstream now that even a specific trade community just has terrible trash comments that get upvoted and can even drown out a professionals real informational response (like youtube does a lot) but ... at least it's there I suppose.

Lemmy... well yes this space is "nerdy", but there's very few specific nerds. by that I mean like the true nerd definition of someone so into this one niche thing that they completely lose all touch with social ques because their area came up in conversation and they are salivating to talk about it. I just recently got told in the most popular pc build community here that they never really bothered looking at memory speed.... I was flabbergasted.

so idk what I would like to see Lemmy become or the future of these types of sites in general. I forced myself to make that post on the pc build community because I was going through the process and maybe it would help someone out in the future and a little socializing while going through a project seems interesting. But, I have so many other posts I think about and just don't do because it's going to be either generic responses or me talking into the void with putting a lot of work into collecting all the data I have and formatting it/etc. Time is always limited, so it's a battle over priorities and responsibilities.

  • Thanks for the official cpu link, it's annoying how buried some of those pages are and usually end up on a consumer site for the information.

Already upgraded to SSD, tend to always do that first and reserve all the spare HDD's for network back-up use (I honestly see very little difference in the drive types besides boot-up and maybe some specific tasks like transfers but it's everyone's bread and butter for upgrades so I just go with it).

Looking at several different CPU's for a couple of devices I have so it's been added to the list (who knew ebay was the best place for prices on cpu's?, just gotta vet the vendor a bit more before sending the funds I suppose). I'm actually quite pleased with the cpu for now with this use case, a particular game that prefers smaller core count with higher frequency and a lot of websurfing (they're also a tab fiend, it's horrible). Not including ones with overclocking it's one of the best "older cpus" I've got so far. I have a long list of testing I plan on doing this winter and will probably borrow it back for a bit to throw it in the lot and see what's bottlenecking for curiosity sake at the minimum.

Ok, here's my current problem/confusion that's not making any sense.

    Supported:

    CPU: 64 GB DDR4-2133/2400, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V (Memory Channels: 2)

Chipset: DIMMs per channel 1, ECC Memory: NO

MotherBoard: Supports up to PC4-21300 (DDR4 2666), Supports 4 GB and 8 GB DDR4 UDIMMs (Dual/2 channel memory architecture)

So the CPU limits the ddr4 to 2400 instead of the 2666 the Mobo can handle (might get 2666 incase the cpu does get switched out). The mobo limits the 64GB ram cpu max because it only supports 8gb with 2 channels (only 1 dimm per channel) meaning max 16gb? dmidecode lists in Physical Memory Array, Maximum Capacity: 32 GB. Is that per channel? I'm assuming it's not and is a total since the memory sites also want to sell a 32GB kit with 2 - 16GB sticks. Why is intel, like apple I ran into before, limiting the specifications on their hardware datasheet's when you can actually use more? Which should I consider a true indicator and which is misinformation? The retailers for hardware of course have an incentive to sell a more expensive product but the manufacturers are not promoting the full available specs because... I have no clue.

I get this is getting closer to the sillier and pedantic side now for an older machine, again I just want to be confident in my knowledge and have full considerations available to me when making a decision even if I'm not min-maxing the device.

  • At this point I think you can legally opt out of any type of data collection by the government like the Census. You're required by law to participate but they are also required by law to keep your information safe, that's no longer possible in this administration and there's plenty of relevant data to back it up.

  • I probably believed that before George Bush Sr. and Jr. (middle east, etc), now I don't think anyone will actually be held accountable unless it's a U.N. styled group but even then the people who are "useful" won't see any type of repercussions (like operation paperclip with ww2).

  • Oh man! You've just giving me something that I think will really help stoke the fire in my relationship!

I've never really been into sexual roleplay and it's one of the things my partner previously expressed an interest in. We regularly game together either doing co-op or single player since we feel it's more engaging sometimes than zoning out on a movie., so the recommendations like "Leap of Love" sounds like the perfect gaming/drinking night that might kinda dip into the roleplaying aspect!

I really wish I claimed it when I saw it, just a few clicks and I'm kicking myself for it now. Are there any others you or anyone else would recommend that are more fantasy roleplay focused and might be good for two people?
