Time to abolish at will employment.
  • Friend, your guild idea already exists. It's just called a Union in the current day. Many trades already operate this way, from the Carpenters Union to the Iron Workers Union. There's even a Teamsters Union. The different name doesn't change the work they do. White- collar hand much less representation with collective solidarity, but that can be fixed by starting a Union at your local work place. I won't tell anyone it's easy, but it's worth putting in the work. A great example is the Starbucks unions that have popped up in the last few years. The reason you don't see more unions is because employers are terrified of them, and want to continue to freely exploit the workforce through fear.

  • Time to abolish at will employment.
  • While I agree with getting rid of at-will policies, I disagree with one part of your idea. Why would I ever want to indenture myself to 5 years with the same employer? How would unions be handled? How about strikes? What about health insurance benefits?

Frankly, unions already solve alot of the problems with at-will employment, and should be protected by law rather then systemically stripped away.

  • Those of you that back your vehicle into parking spots, why do you do it?
  • Depends on the car and the parking lot, for me. When I drive my mom someplace we use her van, it's easier for her to get in and out that way. This van has a shorter front end, and no backup camera to compensate, so I back in and pull out of spaces so I have better views as I'm moving.

When I drive my sedan with my wife and kids, I pull in to spaces and back out, because the sedan has a much longer front end and a great backup camera/radar alert system that makes backing out of spaces the safer option.

  • Supreme Court has denied Trump's request to bring back an obscure 18th-century wartime law to initiate mass deportations
  • I'm not deluded or ignorant, I'm well aware such a thing wouldn't stop the dictatorial asshat. I'm only pointing out that from a legal perspective, this wouldn't be an "official and legal" order. Such a thing can already be said of many of the Executive Orders that have been proclaimed and signed. It's a technicality, I know, but I'm just trying to point out another instance of the law being twisted and ignored rather then upheld.

  • And this slide is about how parents would love to see their child again
  • I've actually got a setting/ system that uses this idea as a world building start. Necrobiotic by Penny for a Tale. It's pretty cool, although i use it as a guide for world creation with DnD games rather then playing in the created system.

  • Nintendo is Trying to Stop You From Filing Lawsuits Against Them With New EULA Amendment
  • Yeah, if I recall the change was because so many people took them to arbitration at the same time that the cost wasn't worth it, so they changed the policy to 'local court' to avoid the situation repeating while also sidestepping any large class action attempts.

  • Telepathy will be real once we master brain computer interface
  • I already communicate without speech, I'm doing it right now to someone I've never met and don't know the identity of, who is receiving only the thoughts I wish to share. Why would I go beyond that?

Besides, I can also share thoughts with those I do know without speech. I text my wife when I don't want the kids to hear our joke, I can even include pictures to get the message across if I don't have the words.

  • Coming of the Night

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

When footsteps crackle among long dead and dreary bones, and looming tyrants bellows echo over painful muffled moans,

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

As children cry and call for parents lost embrace, and families weep in fear of loss, should they fall from grace,

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

To stop the shadow of kings cloak, from stretching 'cross the land, and return true freedom to the peoples rightful hands,

Rage, rage, against the coming of the night. Rage, rage, against the dying of the light.

The call of rage against this dark injustice, summons forth collective might.

[Help] Does anyone know how to delete a 'Downloaded' controller config?

I had 3 configs I was testing for No Man's Sky, and since the last couple updates the community configs are broken. If I launch the game those configs come up as totally empty of assigned controls. I can switch to a Hello Games config and it works fine. I can't seem to find any way to delete a configuration once it's been downloaded. I was hoping that deleting and re-download would fix the issue.

    PSA: Nested Desktop Mode

After seeing some folks noticing a comment I made elsewhere in this instance, I thought a full post would be best. For those who don't know, the Steam Deck has a feature called Nested Desktop, which allows fast access to Desktop mode without needing to leave Game Mode or reboot into and out of modes.

To use this, go into desktop mode, open the menu and use the search function to look for "Nested Desktop". Now right click and add that to Steam. When you boot into Game mode, you'll see a new item added called Nested Desktop, which you can open to access desktop mode while still in game mode.

I found out about this almost a week ago and so far I use it most for referencing my digital game guides or searching NMS portal codes while still gaming. It's pretty seamless and really opens up some nice options, like modding a game and being able to boot it faster while having Game mode controls available.

    Finally an official diagnosis

I was introduced to the potential for ADHD as an adult, and now at 33 I have my official diagnosis! Severe ADHD / Innatentive Presentation I've never been relived to get a diagnosis of severe anything before, but I feel like I can finally feel sure about why I've struggled with these symptoms for so much of my life. Now I can start learning how to deal with and accommodate my symptoms, rather then trying to wrestle this many-limbed thing in the dark of ignorance.

Looking for the Title of a story

If this is meant to be elsewhere, please let me know. I once read a story about a soldier who was in a horrific assault, who was then grafted into a large battle mech. As the story goes on, more flesh is taken until eventually only a spinal column and brain are left inside a gel-sack, and the machine has been upgraded to the point that it now has a super-punch that is powered by artillery shells in the shoulder. Some search engines showed alot of similar stories, but I can't find the right one. Anyone know this tale by title?

Trying to print with SLA, can I make more then these coin slugs?

Right, so at a glance alot of the posts here are for FDM printing, and while I love my Ender 3 and have no problems with it (anymore...) I really want to get into resin printing. I have a 2 year old Elegoo Mars 2 Mono that I've used a handful of times, because each time I try to print a test model instead of something that looks like a chess piece, all I get is a circle of solid resin about the thickness of a US quarter. I'm kinda discouraged by this, since I know plenty of people get into resin printing and love the level of detail they can get on it. Yes, I know I can get similar details with FDM, and sometimes I do, but I want to expand my printing horizons as well. I've tried printing at different ambient temperatures, reslicing the model with different slicers, and warming the resin before use, but I can't seem to get more then a disk from my printer. Does anyone have some advice or insight into this issue?

The Croc Hunter would have made a very powerful Animorph.

I've been reading the Animorph books and had a realization. So many people commented on how the Croc hunter would touch animals, just pick up something that was venomous or plain dangerous, and act like it was not a big deal. Yes, he always cautioned respect for living things, and the general idea was to show that these beings should be treated with respect and a little awe but not feared or disgusted. Wouldn't that be the perfect cover for an Animorph who needed to collect all sorts of powerful forms? And acquiring the morph is supposed to tranquil the animal for a bit, which is occasionally commented on when Steve would handle an animal. Plus, Wouldn't someone who travels all over the world and is famous be in a great position to combat a global threat with these powers? Traveling from place to place, acquiring powerful animal forms, then using them in his mission like a specialist before moving on to the next?
