FORMULA 1 ARAMCO BRITISH GRAND PRIX 2023
Max was Max, Norris was brilliant, Hamilton drove well (and got some luck), Piastri was great, Perez again finished behind slower cars, Stroll needs to go.
Upvoted because Stool needs to go.
I was looking forward to a shooey on the podium today, but no such luck.
I just want to say how great the growth of content and conversation has been here in just a few weeks. Let's see what the McCedes can do.
Me too. I never commented on Reddit as it would get buried anyways. Today I switched and I already commented twice. I would like to see a good conversation here during live events.
Very happy for Lando! What a drive.
Really impressive drive from Oscar too. I think he would have gotten 3rd if he pitted under the full safety car instead of the VSC
I think Hamilton might have got him at the restart, he would have been slower in maggots and beckets trailing lando and landos defense was nearly perfect
She's Lewis' "friend" lol
Damn. Stroll hitting Gasly was very unnecessary.
5 second penalty 🙄
Sometimes the penalties are insane, considering that the other driver had to retire...
Gasly got Strolled
Verstappen watching TV again
Edit: while doing a fastest lap, lol
I just don't understand why McLaren put Norris and Piastri on hard tyres.
Even split strategies surely after seeing how long George lasted on softs
Great defense from Norris and Piastri, didnt think they would keep the mercedes behind them.
I'm gonna need a replay of Norris' defence against Hamilton. That was imo the best racing we got this year so far.
Yea that first lap after the safety car was amazing.
I can't believe how good Lando is defending himself against Hamilton... Impressive!
Norris is driving like a madman out there and it’s so much fun to watch
Yes! DoTD for me (and not just because I'm a fan)!
McLaren seems comfortably quicker than Ferrari right now
I'm honestly shocked that Sainz hasn't done better than he has. I'd backed him for a podium shot, but this has not been a great race for him.
Norris sounds pissed, and I can't say I blame him. What the fuck were McLaren thinking?
I think there needs to be a rework for the penalties. You look at WEC and a penalty seriously stings. Drive-throughs costing 30 seconds, S&G being 60s. What do we get, 5s for taking a driver out? The penalties are anemic
As is, the penalties are clearly not a deterrent to possibly dangerous conduct. That's got to change.
The intent was not to take a driver out. Hence the penalty.
Really strong defending from Alonso there considering how bad the Aston were here today.
Love this Lewis/Lando duel!
Yeah, some great driving. Let's see what happens with DRS
Yeah...Lance will be picking up a penalty here.
Missing: the fastest lap indicator
Glad I'm not the only one who's been driven insane by that. Good callout.
They must be reading Lemmy, because it's fixed now :D
Piastri has it at the moment, 1:32:499. It's working on the Multiviewer app
Piastri is the new Invisible Man. Sitting casually in 4th as a rookie and nobody is even talking about him!
Really unlucky safety car for him. He absolutely deserved the podium today.
first time following race comments on lemmy! look forward to it
Well done, Lando! What a race!
Hards is an interesting choice McLaren
Going to be a challenge for the restart
LOL Lando's voice on the radio. He sounds pissed off!
Oh he definitely wanted to punch someone. I felt it and I'm only streaming the race.
As Lando's fan, this race is a joy to watch (so far)
That's about to change sadly
What in the actual fuck was that anthem? Completely unnecessary saxophone is always a choice
How the hell has Russell made the softs last this long?
I'm guessing the lower track temps are really helping. Also why LeClerc is struggling on the hards.
Makes sense. I didn't think about that.
Box box
Boxing leclerc on mediums before Russel pits on the softs 💀
Holy shit Alpine double DNF
Jeez, wtf is that Damian?
As always this season, I will be hoping Max doesn't win, but I am excited to see what McLaren can do.
I feel those dark clouds are just teasing us by now
Right? They just need to float on over the track a bit and give us a bit of rain
Mercedes pitwall even said they won't be anywhere close the track. Just blueballing everyone
Lando leads a lap! What a start.
It was nice while it lasted!
If Max has a "weakness" it's actually starts.
Which in his case means he's just really good at them and not otherworldly, but still.
I think there might be a car problem on starts too. Perez has had similarly bad starts and Ver has had better starts in previous years
It's true that they've had some clutch problems over the past two years. Still, I'm not sure Max was ever renowned for his starts the way Alonso is (was?) for instance.
But is it a weakness of Max or of the Red Bull? I don't remember many great starts of Perez either.
Stroll just yeeted him
5 seconds penalty. Think he is lucky there
That was a strange anthem
Perez on softs?
Sainz fastest on hards?
Saxophone during God Save the King?
It’s been a GP of questions so far
Hamilton's tyres are cooked now, Oscar needs to push.
Very much enjoyed this race. Quite a few exciting moments throughout! Stoked for Lando too. I have a feeling with this package of upgrades it might be possible for Piastri to podium, he came so close today. Maybe that's just wishful thinking on my end to see a rookie do well!
Great race. A podium with Norris and Hamilton is something I wish we would see more often
Brundle having trouble finding people on the grid is wild, how is Silverstone so mild?
Piastri is doing amazing, keeping close to Norris, serious shot at a podium today
He earned it but unlucky with the safety car.
No further action on Stroll is a wild decision
Excellent race and so glad to see McLaren making big gains!
Out of the last few races I think this was one of the better ones, it had several fun moments.
Also, please fix your qualifying Checo, you’re killing me here
Ferrari pitting, must be time for some rain.
A little bit of a snoozefest so far, I'm not gonna lie
Story of the season so far. Banger qualis and mediocre races.
fastest lap graphic not working?
doesn’t really matter this early but still nice to see it change throughout the race
Congrats to Lewis on second place. No way is Lando going to be able to hold him back.
What a battle it was! Can't believe Lando was and to keep ahead.
And... It's all over
Now we can focus on the real excitement in the midfield
McLaren going to catch up to Alpine in a single weekend somehow haha
That replay of KMag looks like his car has diarrhea from eating a curry that is too hot for him.
Alpine moment.
Hopefully Albon can make some points today
Safety car time
Hopefully they manage to keep it to the VSC
Welp
Yesssss.
Norris on Hards is going to win him this or completely fuck him over
Holy shit I love seeing Lando fighting at the front. He clearly has the racecraft to do it
surprised that mclaren is holding position
For 2 more laps max
The longer it goes on for, the more it favours McLaren
Really hoping at least one of the McLarens finish on the podium 🤞
So race predictions?
Piastri DotD
I'm predicting Checo will finish in the points.
I'm just hoping for a McLaren podium
Prediction: Hamilton on softs is going to pass Lando on hards and then Max will have another of his infamous bad luck Silverstone inchidents and Lewis will win.
Shut
We can wish. But this is the 2023 season. Max will win... stuff will happen behind him.
Please no
Go on Piastri!
Being a Ferrari supporter is more painful every week!
They have the absolute worst strategy every week.
HAM's out of DRS, has Norris got it?
One can hope, even if it is always the hope that kills.
The McLaren livery is really growing on me. They should just make that their permanent one.
🎸It's really growing on meeeeeee!
Holy shit what is happening? Am I in a parallel dimension?
Uh oh, George is saying it's raining again 👀
"What a terrible day for rain." - George Russell, Silverstone 2023
When is the just stop oil protest due?
Well that was different
Waiting for George's radio grassing on Leclercs late move
Well, you didn't wait very long.
Lmao, Sainz forgot plan B
I am ready for McLaren dominance. Amazing how this car went from piss to leading the grand prix in one season
Huge credit to the mclaren engineers. The upgrades are massive and have clearly performed. The car last weekend showed a massive deficit, and I honestly thought it was just Lando pulling a gap to his teammate on a track he’s particularly good at. I’m very happy to be wrong. PIA being up there with NOR shows that the car really is that much better and that PIA can keep up with (but it looks like not quite challenge) Norris.
Well atleast max had to work for it a bit
It's pretty cool to see Oscar being able to show off his talent.
Let’s go Lando!
Ferrari 9-10 shouldn't be surprising but it is.
Keep it steady Lando, mate.
Norris is going to get eaten alive
hards make no sense
Very disappointed in mclaren rn... they threw this race
Dr House can sing
That's Dr Homeland
This should be a fun 15 or so laps to the finish. Gonna be hard for Mclaren, id bet ver - ham - rus for the podium
I bring you FIRE!
George still running on those softs at lap 25 is nuts.
I think running the soft so long and being able to go to mediums is going to end up a lot better than everyone running hards
Nyck keeping it clean as well. Very impressive.
Softs are looking durable, surprising more aren't considering it
Magnuson on fire! Not good
Haas on Fire and Alpine DNF. Now this is Formula 1!
Full SC now
So how is this formation lap with the apex car supposed to work? Will they just follow at the back and enter the pitlane?
That was only for the installation lap, not the formation lap, wasn't it?
You're right, my mistake. That makes a lot more sense
I hope they keep Lando out long enough to put on softs.
Norris in pole!
Are we in for some excitement? Would make a change, lmao
Wow. What a start for Lando!
WE HAVE A RACE!
For now anyway. Love it
as usual, Max ruining the fun for everyone.
Inevitable but that was 4 laps more than I thought we’d get to see a McLaren leading this race
One of the few tracks where you can here the crowd without it being piped in
A Williams passing a Ferrari wtf
That was seriously impressive driving from Albon at the end. Williams leading both Ferrari's!
Max 5 seconds ahead of P2 by lap 3
Yay, new mods!
Guess it’s working out for Lando with the hard tire.
Any good chance for Perez to end up on podium?
The red bull below him is capable of a padium yes. Perez? Let's see
Wtf Sainz going backwards
I’m so disappointed with McLaren.
I'd guess they had a plan in mind before the race, and were completely unwilling to deviate. That's the only explanation that makes sense here. Surely they're not just willingly obtuse.
Other than a predictable finish for max this was a great race to watch. Cars were able to follow closely and battle through corners. Great finish for Norris and Piastries hope they can keep it up.
Did i hear that right was the Avril Lavigne? Shame she wouldn't chat
Any guesses on whether or not Ferrari manage to avoid bottling their tyre strategy?
There's pretty solid odds that they pit for a tire change a lap before it starts raining only to pit a few laps later for inters.
Makes sense.
The only way this works out for Mclaren is if the cars around them shred the softs and drop off at the end.
These new tyres look a tad more durable than the ones we’ve had so far. That might play into race strategy this year.
Sadly I don't see that happening. Russell made it 28? Laps with much more fuel
It’s very likely. One can dream as a Lando fan
Safety Car 2? MGHU boogaloo?
Don't you bring that evil on me
Just made it to the pits thankfully
Excited! But I expect everything is back to normal after a vew laps.
Who had a leak on the grid? Loads of sand going down
Weather update?
The grid walk is so much fun!!
Russell on softs, always on the aggressive strategy, I like it.
Go Go Go!
Piastri holding his own against Max is quite impressive
If the Mclaren pace holds on this could get interesting
I wonder if the stewards are going to investigate the Hulkenberg-Perez contact.
Norris just dropped out of DRS. Get ready for the gap to build fast now.
He's not that far outside the range. I think he'll get at least one more shot.
Definitely doing better than I expected. Pleasantly surprised.
Wow! Ocon DNF.
This is the Alpine we all know and love.
Precisely.
Was exciting for a few minutes…
Was that a hawk?
McLaren dropping back for tyre temps, maybe. That was an insane start for Lando.
Probably just overall management. They know they're not going to beat Max. But if they can maintain a 2-3 finish, that would be phenomenal for the team.
Max might just be managing though
I hope this rain doesn't become a repeat of Sochi
To those who are watching this on F1 TV, does the crew seem a bit biased or am I on about nothing?
A little, yeah. But not enough to bother me too much. It's the British GP 🤷♂️
Silverstone's a good track, but it's the one track that I don't enjoy as much as I should because of how poor the commentary ends up being.
Perez going for driver of the day again.
Cant win the championship so he's tanking in qualifying so he can win driver of the day every race...
How long do we think Russell lasts on the softs? If he makes them go past lap 22, I'll honestly be a little impressed.
He's still doing solid lap times. Doesn't seem to be falling off yet.
5 seconds of free air in front now, should help
I thought that was one of Ferrari's engineers.
Leclerc doing good lap times on the hards, I think the C1s might be pretty good.
EDIT: scratch that he's not getting temps in them.
Less than half way through and the gap is up to 5 seconds. Still it's nice to see McLaren holding position, would be very happy if we finished like this.
Seems like it takes five laps for the hards to warm up properly, as Charles is now able to improve pace.
Wtf is that commentary? Zomby cars?
When are Merc going to sort out their pit crews?
Maybe they should arrange an exchange with the Ferrari strategy team?
RIP Magnussen
Sainz with the fastest lap, and that's on hards
But that was a nice overtake!
3.9 seconds. Ayyyy. They need to get better at that.
What happened to piastri? I haven't been following very well
He took his pit stop
Cheers
Ferrari on hards is going to be painful to watch.
We've all seen how this movie goes...
Classic Ferrari strategy
"I forgot the details" sums it up.
I don't see how this can stay a vsc
Safety Car!
Welp. Goddamn it Haas.
Full safety car
Dead Haas
Safety Car!
Max/Lando are winning out here
Lol yeah I’d say engine died all right
Really?
ah great, the VSC lottery deciding the race.
Did Alonso miss the VSC pit window?
Haas is in a really bad spot. Super slow in the race while eating the tires and now MAG out of the race, just like HUL in the last race.
Haas is embarrassingly bad right now. This is the exact same set of problems they had in the last Gen of cars. They’ve clearly got something fundamentally wrong in their processes that causes this
Part of me says they're just making a mockery of the sport and should be pushed off the grid, but then who'd replace them, if anyone?
I think Gene just doesn't give a fuck about F1. It's just a self-sustaining advertising opportunity to him and nothing more and so there is no impetus from the top to sort out what is clearly a dysfunctional team even accounting for budget constraints.
The hard tires are murdering Carlos atm, what a shame.
mclaren able to stay ahead of ferrari so far
neat
The sun coming out and warming up the track might have saved the hard tire
They have to play the radio message where they tell Gasly about the decision.
Sainz baby! Que haces?
Alpine gonna Alpine I guess.
Gasly out, hopefully he finds a good spot to dump it
Norris is a bit faster than Verstappen at the moment
Max is playing Motorsport manager on his phone at the same time though..
He's probably saving his engine. No need to push he's already won and has fastest lap.
10 more laps and lando would absolutely have it
Happy with that. Norris in a well deserved 2nd. And 2 Brits on the podium.
Well deserved indeed. I'm so happy for him and Piastri right now.
I was skeptical but I'm really glad the hards ended up being the right call for Lando
