Thank you to /u/anon_smithsonian in particular for taking care of everyone on /r/redditisfun.

RIF, you’re quirky and rough around the edges, but you’ve always gotten the job done. You know how to get out of the way and show people the articles, discussions, pictures, and videos they came for.

You have the silliest name, but we love you all the more for it. RIF will always be fun in our hearts.

RIF has been so much of my life.

I’m honored that so many of you have felt the same way.

Thank you for sharing this journey with me. It’s been fun.

Rif was reddit for me. It was how I accessed it 99.9% of the time. By far the most used app on all my phones for more than a decade. I'm extremely sad that this is how it dies, but all things must end, it seems. Rest in peace old friend. And rot in pieces reddit, for killing the best goddamned app I've ever used...
- 100% agree. It was the only way I viewed Reddit for 11 years.
  The day that pop-up appeared saying it was shutting down I set all the (small) subs I moderated to private, deleted my account, and came on over here. What a fucking shame.
  
  Yes, I'm sure Apollo was great, but I never even knew it existed until this whole fiasco, because I jumped to RIF when it was still "Reddit Is Fun" and never looked back, because it did everything I needed, perfectly.
  
  rif's UI was near perfect for me. I called it an app version of old.reddit, which was exactly what I wanted.
  (Before old.reddit I just considered it a perfect app version of Reddit.)
- I'm sure I had it many years before this image from 2016 - it's always had a place on my home screen since the original Galaxy Tab 1. (which is still going today as an SMS device at a radio station.)
  Replaced with /kbin PWA for now.

  FTFY. The only time I didn't, was when I was accessing it for work, or when somebody sent me a Reddit link after the company started infesting all mobile web users with that app-only bullshit. :(
  
  Really? I always opened reddit links from google on RiF.
- As soon as I heard RIF was shutting down I left reddit altogether. I don't have strong feelings about the official app one way or the other but the way in which the execs at reddit decided to handle this situation was more than enough to get me to move.
- I've been using Sync, but I feel the same. But it's all water under the bridge now. Reddit is over and it's time to move on.
- Same for me. I originally downloaded some rage comics app on a Galaxy Gio which basically just pulled from f7u12 (remember those days lol). I kept seeing references to reddit and went and downloaded the first app I could find. 11 years later RIF has been my most used app on every device and I'm gonna miss it

Been a Reddit is Fun good user for over a decade. Is by far been my most used app. Earlier editions had the little alien in the corner, and I have three phones with that logo burned into the screen. I really have been enjoying the growth of Lemmy/Fediverse, and it reminds me honestly of early Reddit. But still it's bittersweet losing RiF and how drastically the community of Reddit has changed over the last few months
Thank you for posting this here. Really heartwarming to receive so much kindness.
Let's be optimistic for the future of Internet communities. Technology evolves and puts more power into the hands of the users. Excited to see what's next.

- Glad to share it! Thank you so much for your hard work, I cannot overstate how much I loved your app. I'm sure you've been getting this bunch but seriously the experience on Reddit is fun was what made Reddit. I have barely used it ever on a computer and have never really experienced it any other way. It is by far the number one used to have on my phone and losing access to it is losing access to Reddit for me. I'd love to know about any other projects that you're working on because the quality and simplicity of your product was what made the experience so great all these years!

- Jumping on the bandwagon here. Sad to see the current state lead to the end of RiF. The app has been a huge part of my internet addiction. Thank you for all the years of development and patience.

I don't even remember buying premium for it it was so long ago and its been my go fo app forever. I miss it but I just have to remember spez killed it not the devs.

  LJ Dawson is working on a Lemmy app to replace Reddit Sync, but I think Lemmy is a bit... chaotic... right now in terms of code quality.
Hopefully I will see RIF on the other side.
- RiF kbin native fediverse app or an analog with a few added fedi features would be pretty tight

I never even heard of reddit when I was introduced to rif. Only reddit I know. I didn't really try others, didn't need to. It was perfectly simple. Thank you and now on to new and better things, hopefully

11+ years here. A moment of silence, 99% of my redditing was through this app. I feel bad that I only just bought the premium version because I didn't realize just how good it was, but I hope I made up for that. Thank you for your years of service.

Sync was my poison. I used it enough that I don't feel any particular need to ask for a refund... I got way more than my money's worth out of it. In fact, I'll pay the author again if a new Sync arrives with Kbin support.

- Same. Sync was amazing when I was on Android. Used BaconReader and RiF, and been on Apollo since switching to iOS, but Sync was/is the best. It’ll be missed.
RIP RIF. I'm another one who used it 99% of the time. I'm glad I found kbin and I'm mostly over reddit, but I'm not over RIF. Thank you for all those years. Fuck you u/spez for destroying the site I've been a part of for almost 10 years... in a single week.
RIF was always a very very good app. Probably the best app I have used on android.

Although RIF was the only 3rd party app I used for reddit, I still feel grateful for all the other devs that made reddit what it was.

Loved RIF deleted the app and stopped using Reddit when the protest started. Such a well done UX
It's sad that all those apps developed in years of hard work will be gone in a couple of days.

  This is correct. I'm also excitedly watching Sync for Lemmy as Lemmy and Kbin are pretty neat so far and will only get better. I have been finding myself using all of the above.
  Although @ljdawson and I have been vicious blood rivals in the past in the Reddit third-party Android apps sphere, we've been interacting more lately and see eye-to-eye on a lot of things. Great person and great developer.

  Jerboa actually gives off similar vibes for me, though it's still definitely its own thing.
The wild part about this is that as much as I loved this app, and as much time as I spent on it, it was the experience with that I enjoyed. It wasn't reddit.
