I feel like a nerd that my first thought was "but the strip was originally named Lil Folks this doesn't make any sense".

It does kind of make sense if you know Schultz was from Minnesota and Minnesotans call all little kids "peanut"
So, "Lil Folks" to "Peanuts" is a really logical choice and people from the upper Midwest might not even notice the difference!

The actual first strip is not exactly all sweetness and light either.
The parody is much closer to the original than i expected.
Most of these are pretty depressing, made me sad
I'd never read these before, but this girl is SAVAGE.
