Until we start talking about seizing the means of production and wealth redistribution, we are nowhere near the left. Still very firmly on the right.
- Yea, I am a big fan of Mamdani, but seeing the wider state of "the left" in the US, I do not think he will be able to have the impact we would all like to see. I sort of see him as another AOC/Bernie for now, at least until he starts successfully achieving material changes.
  
  We’ll see. At least with a few of his promises, they are things that he will have the power to implement on his own. If he hasn’t attempted them in the first month, it will be a very bad sign.

- I think Mamdani is what I'd call a center-left. He does suggest some moderate forms of wealth redistribution (via higher and more proportional taxes, which can then be used for food, transit, etc) and some very mild redistribution of means of production (city-owned grocery stores etc), all while keeping the wider capitalist framework. While not a radical leftist, I think it is an amazing step forward for the US, and pretty much the best new yorkers can hope for outside of a socialist revolution.

Mamdani already caved on everything that would make him left.
Obligatory viewing for the people talking about left-center-right.
But yeah, look, the title uses US mass media terminology, which is thoroughly ridiculous to any political scientist or historian ('liberal' instead of progressive, 'libertarian' instead of liberal, 'socialist' instead of social capitalist, oh my!). And it's melodramatic. But there's little point in circlejerking over it and demanding a US general-audience news outlet actually use the language we expect, it's a written piece with a target audience and it's not you.
The Mamdami supporters need to understand what tools their enemies have at their disposal, and learn about what challenges democratic socialists like Salvador Allende and the working people faced from capitalist reactionaries (before Allende was shot). Voting in a candidate is the easy part, the citizens of NY must continue to involve themselves in how their society is run and do their part in defending social and economic reform from its reactionary opposition.

"The Left" Lol. An Obama style politician that might be less neoliberal than Obama, but that is yet to be seen. Still cheering that he took down Cuomo who ran a racist, frothing at the mouth pro genocide campaign, but let's be real. Zohran already said he's keeping Tisch as his police commissioner, I think it's fair to say he's signaled he wont be rocking the boat too much.
They better actually aggressively reverse this damage and impeach and imprison the entire administration, all of ice, the technofacist cabal, the heritage foundation and the Supreme Court. I also want to see public hearings on AIPAC recipients and congressional insider trading. That’s the barest minimum
