That's how they are acquired
I know that feeling, my first tabby walked in through an open back door. I put her back outside in an open box with food and water hoping the mom would come get her. Four hours of meowing later I had a cat. She matches my new floors at least!
Three of my cats came through the cat flap and lived with me.
They used to live next door, they had six cats but four of them were regular visitors to my house probably because it was quieter. Next door used to have really loud arguments all the time. Anyway they split up, moved out and sold the place, and within a couple of months I had three of them living me. I ran into her in the town and told her where the cats were but she never came and got them. Oh and the two females were heavily pregnant when they moved in so after a couple of days I had six kittens as well. Five cats and six kittens is officially called a chaos.
our neighbors were cat owners like that. they took care of the strays and were constantly fighting to get them all fixed. when we got a solitary kitten from them, they had a momma kitten and two of her daughter kittens who all gave birth at the same time, who the vet would not snip because he doesn't do abortions. on the third attempt of "look, she just had kittens what do you mean she's pregnant again" he just snipped them because 17 kittens is too many kittens.
Everytime I go out i look only forward and walk fast praying that I don't see any cats or dogs. I already have 2 dogs and 2 cats and I was able to emotionally manipulate my brother to keep 2 others. I can't anymore lol
have you tried manipulating with blackberry pie?
Congrats on being adopted. 😺
You have been chosen.
Protip: check for fleas, had one of these pop up in my backyard a couple years and and nearly infested our house with them. Still have the fellow though, weirdly likes his ears scratched heavily due to his early flea infestation.
As someone whos had many cats show up this way... Don't bother checking just assume and treat. Depending on your area, solid chance your fleas may be mostly immune to the cheaper flea collars. I've never met a flea infestation that could survive a few weeks of oral nitenpyram and you can order that online.
Love that little furball. We found one a month ago and he didn't make it past night 2.
I like our local shared ownership model: neighborhood cat visits, we chill on the deck, I offer him water, he doesn't seem to need it, he wanders off. Every so often, there's just this cat at the back door checking in.
Looks like the cat distribution system is working as intended.
