2 U.S. warships deployed to disputed waters after Chinese ships collided

The United States deployed two warships Wednesday to a shoal in disputed waters in South China Sea, where two Chinese ships collided earlier in the week while chasing a smaller Philippine ship.
The high-seas accident raised concerns about maritime safety and questions about the extent to which the U.S. should involve itself in longstanding tensions between those countries.
The US has been doing this stuff in the background for forever, kinda weird it's mainstream news now.
To be fair, the front fell off the Chinese ship.
Hasn't it always been in the news?
China goes and does something aggressive to push their right over a bit of sea, then the US (usually with a local ally alongside) cruise around for a bit to re-establish the status quo.
Seems like this has happened hundreds of times in the past, and they're regularly in the news.
Yeah, it's normal. Just the the US and Russia flying along each other's borders. The news story here is the collision.
The only thing that made me do a double take was that the ambassadors name was MaryKay Carlson. As an American, that name seems very American.
We're gonna get unironic Duncan Idahos before we get a Saints Row 2 Remake. 😭
