Sisyphus is likely hallucinating the entire scenario, and as such probably sees himself being the lever puller, since in his predicament how else could he know about any of this, he's trapped pushing the boulder.
In any case, he's elated to not be pushing the boulder and gleefully reaches for the lever. Not understanding or intuiting any of the situation beyond "something has changed for the better", that he has a new function as "lever puller" and that the thing in front of him is the lever .
It quickly dawns on him, the lever is just a new boulder. The gods extend his punishment for their amusement. Nothing has changed. He isn't sure if he should push the lever back after pulling it, as it didn't reset itself and he wasn't looking for a new job. He watched a vaguely human shaped shadow somehow, impossibly, push the giant boulder further down the path girded by metal bars on the ground.
He thought the ship looked familiar.
