Yeah, he is infirm now. But he was a piece of shit then and, in my opinion, the only thing to take issue with is that it took 37 years to carry out his sentence.
What's the point of killing him, then or now? How does that help society in any way?
What was the point of paying for him to live apart from society for these long decades?
The point of killing him was to convey to everyone that there are rules. Sure, do whatever you want. We're pretty laid back. But, if you go off the rails and start gunning down innocent families, then you don't get to play anymore.
I don't think that the US private prison system does nearly enough to help rehabilitate people. It practically does nothing at all, and I know that area can be improved. However, some things need to be nipped in the bud.
