If anything, the idea there is a purpose to existence ought to be scarier than the idea that there isnt one. If you have an objective, the possibility of failure exists.
Also, what if you actually disagree with the purpose?
Ah, the JRPG approach to life.
I'm a big proponent of found meaning, I do things because they put out into the world what I want the world to be.
If i was driven by devine purpose rather than doing it because of my own personal drive... that would take a lot of the impact out of it.
The fact that it doesn't matter is why it matters
