This line is called IBX. It is the most transformative NYC transit project in modern history. Today, the Governor of New York announced that IBX is moving forward.

It's so desperately needed. Anyone who has used the subway in NYC knows what a pain it is if you want to go between Brooklyn and queens. Best case you catch the G which if you're going to the outer side of the borough is still a long way out of your way. This would be a critical link between the very sprawling lines, and definitely will revitalize the outer edges

Which line, there’s like 200 lines? Sorry I just don’t know NYC’s transit well.
- That's okay, it's the purple on one the left. It's a big deal because as you can see, their network is more of a "hub and spoke" where all of the lines go through Manhattan. But if you want to go from Brooklyn to queens you have to take huge detours armnd roundabout ways to get there. This connects most of the lines at the edges
  
  Ugh, in Chicago we have the same hub and spoke problem. So frustrating.

I had to go on a low FODMAP diet for about a week once and it was awful. I feel bad for people who have to do that all their life.

Also a very loose usage of modern history. All the lines were created in the last 100-something years. So 1 more line seems important (because this trip currently sucks), sure. But it's really dismissive of the existing network.
