Joy Metzler left the Air Force as a conscientious objector over U.S. support for Israeli atrocities in Palestine and joined a 40-day Veterans for Peace hunger strike for Gaza. She says it is crucial we escalate our protest to stop genocide.
So this isn’t a hunger strike. This is weak-ass bullshit that—as you can see—did little more than thoughts and prayers. She got an article. Great. An actual hunger strike ends in death. It’s a time bomb. It gives the other party time to decide if they want to let you die.
And before any of you cry about what I’m “doing,” name a single thing I could do to end the war in Gaza and I’ll go do it. Otherwise shut up.
I don’t really see why any of the people in power would care if this person had starved themselves to death. I don’t understand what the perceived leverage was here.
The people in power might care if it gets in the news. Be careful not to succumb to learned helplessness and nihilism, that's what authoritarian regimes want.
You could use the immense amount of privilege you have (being in the top 3.5% of people in the world with food, water and electricity) to lobby your government. And if you’re feeling so inspired as your angry clearly shows, why don’t you run for government yourself.
Go touch some grass instead of criticising someone doing something
Your math is wrong sweetheart. You are angry that I was born into a country that currently is on top. However, As we have noticed that is quickly becoming not the case. I had nothing to do with that.
I understand your anger, but it should be directed at her and not me. She is literally doing this for a headline. I would be happy to make a friendly wager that she attempts to make money on this by doing speaking engagements or perhaps writing a book.
