I'm Australian, and burger with the lot where I come from involves the following
Bun
Bacon
Egg
Lettuce
Tomato
Pineapple
Beetroot
Meat
Onion
Sauce maybe.
That's the minimum you expect anyway
I promise y'all's lives will change once you understand that fruit goes with meat. It's really not a radical concept. Pineapple can go on burger, because pineapple can go with basically any meat. put it on some candied bacon, have some with your christmas ham, make a pineapple chutney to top your next steak, idk the food science behind why this shit works but it does.
Sweet and Savoury w/ some acid is a great flavour pairing, bonus points for heat. Some peppers themselves have a decidedly fruity flavour, scotch bonnets and habaneros come to mind, and those are used with meat all the time, citrus + chilis (powdered or fresh) is pretty much the core of almost any marinade I make.
For me? Pineapple + Peameal Bacon + Pickled Jalapeños are a great pizza pairing (also do a balsamic, shallot w/ goat cheese and prosciutto one, gets fresh arugula on it).
My favorite burger growing up was the "Hawaiian" burger at a restaurant called Islands, it was AMAZING! Fresh grilled pineapple, Swiss, and teriyaki sauce that gets messy in the tastiest way imaginable. They published the recipe online, it's super easy to make at home.
We do something similar at the bar I work at for our Hawaiian burger. Grilled pineapple and Canadian bacon, Swiss, and some BBQ sauce. Easy to make and tastes great!
I think the bromelain would break down the sauce, so that would be a good reason to omit it from the pot. I have never eaten raclette, so I can't provide a deeper opinion.
No, mostly because I don't really like pineapple in general so it just detracts from anything it's added to. I'll still eat stuff with pineapple if that's what's available, but I'd never intentionally get it for myself.
