The frustrating part is that if society could get over the idea of telling people how they should feel then people wouldn't feel guilty about who they're attracted to in the first place.
It's why pride parades and teaching LGBT history to the next generation is so important. You nip it all in the bud; homophobia, and anxiety related to homophobia. Everything becomes more peaceful and chill regardless of sexual orientation.
Even straight people didn't have to worry about getting accused and fired over dumb shit like "appearing to be gay" (like 1954's lavender scare) or getting accused of being trans and using """the wrong bathroom""" (like 2024's lavender scare).
